Stella Lively (1931– 2009)

Stella Mae Sexton Lively, 77, of Ashland, widow of James Lively, passed away Friday, May 22, 2009, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.

Stella was born Oct. 19, 1931, in Bald Knob, W.Va., a daughter of the late Thurman and Leona Prince Sexton.

In addition to her parents and husband, Stella was preceded in death by two infant siblings; one grandson, James William Patrick; and a loving stepmother, Martha Fannin.

Survivors include three daughters, Nancy Sharon Lee (David) Kucera of Urbandale, Iowa, Rebecca Ann Patrick of Ashland, Ky., and Beverly Jean (Amos) Daniels of Ashland; one sister, Martha Rash of Bald Knob; one brother, Homer Sexton of Detroit, Mich.; four grandchildren, Joyce Ann (Eric) Griffith, David Allen (Anna) Rigsby, Amy (Michael) Lindley, and Amos J. Daniels II; and two great-grandchildren, Chris Daniels and Jordan Mylam.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood by Pastor Steve Ruby. Burial will follow in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and one hour before the service Wednesday at the funeral home.



Wanda Lee Laney (1935-2009)

Wanda Lee Laney, age 73, of Ashland, Ky., died Saturday, May 23, 2009 at her residence.

Mrs. Laney was born June 7, 1935, in Elliott County, Ky., a daughter of the late Hobert Adkins and Gracie Barker Adkins.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy Elmer Laney, who died on June 4, 2004; and a half brother, Willie Smith.

She was a homemaker and member of 21st Street Tabernacle Church.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth Edward and Pam Laney of Ashland and Danny J. and Susan Laney of Pedro, Ohio; two daughters and a son-in-law, Teresa and Carl Reibold of Lexington, S.C., and Patricia Faye Laney of Ashland and her boyfriend, Mike Grigsby; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a half brother and sister-in-law, Darrell and Debbie Brickey of Rush, Ky.; a sister and brother-in-law, Juanita and Delmar Hay of Elliott County and a half sister, Joy Wilburn of Greenup County, Ky.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland by Pastor Rick Porter. Burial will be in Brickey Family Cemetery.

Linville G. Browning Sr. (1917-2009)

Linville G. Browning Sr., 92, of Ashland, Ky., died Saturday evening, May 23, 2009 at his residence.

He was born April 21, 1917, in Man, W.Va., a son of the late Wetzel and Bessie Browning.

His wife, Mabel Mae Perry Browning, died in 1995.

He was retired from Union Concrete and Pipe Co. in Kenova, W.Va. After his retirement, he spent many years as a farmer. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Teamsters Local No. 505.

Surviving are two sons, Linville G. Browning Jr. of Ashland and Brian (Leslie) Browning of Meter, Ga.; three daughters, Marie (Burton) Potter of South Shore, Ky., Brenda (Bob) Delaney of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Dreama (Dave) Damron of Pedro, Ohio; 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Rose Hill Burial Park.

Services are under the direction of Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland.

John Ellis Amburgey (1916-2009)

John Ellis Amburgey, 92 of Ashland, formerly of Mount Sterling and Winchester, Ky., father of Linda Carol Duff, died on May 22, 2009.

He was born Sept. 16, 1916, in Menifee County, Ky., the son of the late Samuel and Pearl Igo Amburgey. He was a retired general agent for C&O; Railroad in Ashland and former agent for C&O; and L&N; Railroads in Winchester. He had more than 38 years railroad service. He was a graduate of Mount Sterling High School in 1935 and attended the University of Kentucky. He was a member of the Mount Sterling First Baptist Church, and manager of the Haldenan baseball team in the late 1940’s.

He is also survived by two grandchildren, Lara Dawn Duff of New York City and Lana Duff of Mexico City, Mexico.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 28 at Machpelah Cemetery in Mount Sterling.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m Wednesday, May 27 at Steen Funeral Home in Ashland, Ky.

Taul Funeral Home in Mount Sterling is in charge of arrangements.



Iva Faye (Reeves) Calhoun (1924-2009)

Iva Faye (Reeves) Calhoun, 84, of Grayson, went to be with the Lord Sunday, May 24, 2009.

She was born July 14, 1924, in Denton, Ky., daughter of the late Alex and Emma (Burke) Reeves. Also preceding her in death were her sisters, Hattie Kitchen, Garnet Tussey, Virgie Smith and Agnes Cunningham.

She was employed with the Carter County Board of Education as a secretary at Hitchins and East Carter for many years.

Her survivors include her husband of 63 years, R.W. Calhoun; one daughter, Karen Calhoun of Grayson; one son, Gary Dale (Barbara) Calhoun of Raceland and two grandchildren, John C. Calhoun and Charles W. Calhoun, both of Raceland; nieces, Bernice Dixon of Columbus, Ohio, Donnetta Bradley of Ashland, Judy Grayson of Ashland, Regena Beach of Flatwoods, Alice Dingee of Hitchins, Jolene Kitchen of Columbus, Loretta Burke of Danville, Ill., Betty Russenfoss of Ozark, Mo., Suzanne Bradford of South Carolina and Sandra Kay Felty of Columbus; nephews, Darrell Alexander of Glasgow, Ron Bradford of Maryland, Jack Bradford of Gulfport, Miss., Bill Bradford of Grayson, Wayne Bradford of Denton, Donnie Davis of Danville, Ill., Bobby Joe Davis of Florida, Tommy Longley of St. Louis, Mo.; and a host of family and friends who mourn her passing.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Malone Funeral Home in Grayson with George Smith officiating.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland or the Activity Fund at Wurtland Manor Nursing Home.

David L. Stewart, 71, of Ashland, died Monday in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

He was born July 6, 1937, in West Virginia.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. today at Ashland Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

Bob Williams, 72, of Westwood, died Monday at his residence.

Paul Littlejohn, 56, of Greenup, died Saturday in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.

Madeline Viars McRoberts, 81, of Olive Hill, died Sunday at her residence.

She is survived by her husband, Everett McRoberts.

Corda Perry (1920-2009)

Corda Rachel Craft Perry, 89, of Hampton, Ga., died Sunday.

She was born Feb. 13, 1920, in Wolfe County.

Her husband, Carl Perry, preceded her in death.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Redeemed Baptist Church. Burial will be in Memory Hill Cemetery in Caney.

Raymond Ed Wells, 81, of Isonville, died Saturday at his residence.

Rosemary Sites, 84, of South Point, died Sunday in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.

She was born July 2, 1924, in South Point.

Her husband, John F. Sites, survives.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Tracy Brammer Funeral Home in Ironton. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens in South Point.
