A.L. Newsom (1919-2009)
Abraham L. “Buck” Newsom, 90, of Boyd County, was born Jan. 14, 1919, in Lawrence County, Ky., to the late Oliver and Arminta Moore Newsom. He passed away Friday, May 29, 2009, in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
He moved to Boyd County in 1921. He retired from Semet Solvay in 1971, with 30 years of service. Buck was a charter member of Southside Church of the Nazarene in Catlettsburg and was a manager of Mount Hope Church Campgrounds in Flemingsburg for 20 years.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Danny Jay; four brothers, Ernest, Printes, Oscar and Therman; and four sisters, Eva, Louise, Gladys and Rebecca.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Pal Mira Keesee Newsom; a daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Mike Duvall of Catlettsburg; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Rosemary of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren, Abby Blevins, Shanon Newsom, Stephen Newsom and Carla Newsom; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Inez.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Southside Church of the Nazarene in Catlettsburg. A message of comfort and inspiration will be offered by Pastor Jim Webster. Final rest will follow a solemn committal in Ashland Cemetery.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Panola Street in Catlettsburg.
Mary Tussey Class (1927-2009)
Mary Tussey Class, 82, of Wilson Creek, died Thursday afternoon, May 28, 2009, at her residence.
She was born July 4, 1927, in Carter County, a daughter of the late Dennis and Essie Hutchinson Berry. She was a homemaker and a member of Straight Creek Freewill Baptist Church in Denton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband of 49 years, Warren Tussey; a daughter, Rita Tussey Hall; a stepson, Scott Class; a brother, Robert “Bob” Berry; and three sisters, Mildred Adkins, Mabel Mullins and Alice Seagraves.
She is survived by her husband, Irvin Class of Alexandria; two daughters, Gail (Leonard) Marshall of New Carlisle, Ohio, and Karen (Dale) Wilburn of Grayson; a stepson, Mark Class of Alexandria; a brother, Virgil Berry of Grayson; five granddaughters, Kara (Ben Vanderpool) Milem and Amanda Milem of Georgetown, Susan Harris of New Carlisle, Amy (Steve) Wilburn of Grayson and Lauren Class of Alexandria; seven grandsons, Donald “Bub” (Amanda) Ratcliff and Jeremy Hall, both of Hitchins, Zach Marshall and Ethan Owings, both of Georgetown, and Zach Class of Alexandria. In addition to these, Mary is also survived by many nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends she loved dearly.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday June 2, 2009, at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson by Lester Bowling. Burial will be in East Carter County Memory Gardens.

Luther Reynolds
Luther Reynolds, 98, of Elliott County, passed away Friday, May 29, 2009, in St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
The son of the late Daniel Boone and Ann Kidd Reynolds was a farmer and a member of the Pentecostal Church of God. He was the husband of the late Lela Jewell Mays Reynolds.
He was also preceded in death by a great-great-great-grandchild; a son, Emory Lee Reynolds; a sister, Lula Fannin; three brothers, Johnny, William and Jerry Reynolds; and a daughter in law, Juanita Reynolds.
He is survived by his children, Elmo Reynolds of Mason, Tenn., Lorene and husband Fred Carter of New Carlisle, Ohio, Evalena and husband Aubrey Whitt of Morehead, Guy and wife Barbara Reynolds of Morehead and Joyce Elliott of Jackson, Mich.; a daughter-in-law, Nina Lou Lewis of Sandy Hook; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 1, 2009, at Lewis & Ferguson Funeral Home in Sandy Hook by Brother Eugene Haney and Brother Eugene Winkleman. Burial will be in Reynolds Family Cemetery.

Berniece A. Ball (1937-2009)
Berniece A. Ball, 71, of Louisa, died Friday in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
She was born Dec. 30, 1937, in Louisa, the daughter of the late Ralph and Thelma Miller Arrington. She was the widow of Blaine G. Ball Jr., who died in 2002. She was a housewife.
Survivors include a daughter, Vanessa T. Ball of Louisa; two sons, Blaine G. Ball III of Marietta, Ohio, and Stephen R. Ball of Brentwood, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Young Funeral Home in Louisa. Burial will be in Short Cemetery in Louisa.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Gary E. Adams (1941-2009)
Gary E. Adams, 67, of Ashland, died Saturday in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
He was born June 8, 1941, in Boyd County.
His wife, Shirley Blackburn Adams, survives.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland. Burial will be in Catlettsburg Cemetery.

Carolyn Sue Riffe, 57, of Wurtland, died Friday in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell.
She was born Nov. 6, 1951, at Brodhead.
Her husband, Joseph Osborne “J.O.” Riffe, preceded her in death.
