Gary E. Adams (1941-2009)

Gary E. Adams, 67, of Ashland, died Saturday in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

He was born June 8, 1941, in Boyd County, the son of the late Charles E. Adams and Zealla Darby Ward. He was the husband of Shirley Blackburn Adams, who survives.

He was employed as a system tech at Armco.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Frank Adams.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his stepfather, George Ward; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Lee and Shana Adams of Ashland, Russell Adams of Honduras and Harold and Shelly Adams of Ashland; three grandchildren, Evan Adams, Jessica Adams and Shane Adams; and a sister, Gloria Martin.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland by the Rev. Butch Kiger. Burial will be in Catlettsburg Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Harold Adams, Lee Adams, Russell Adams, Henry Kahn, Chris Hall and Evan Adams.

Robert L. DeZarn (1933-2009)

Retired Maj. Gen. Robert L. DeZarn, 75, of Stanford, formerly of Richmond, Ashland and Lawrenceburg, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2009, in the Golden Living Center in Stanford.

He was born Tuesday, June 27, 1933, to the late Robert C. and Alma Smyth DeZarn. He was a former shipping foreman of Armco Steel with more than 34 years of service to the company. Robert enlisted in the Kentucky Army National Guard in 1953, entering as a private and retiring as adjutant general of the Kentucky National Guard with more than 42 years of service to state and nation.

He served his country as first lieutenant, U.S. Army, 2nd Battalion, 14th Armored Cavalry Regiment in the Federal Republic of Germany from 1955 to 1957. He was a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University with a B.S. degree in commerce.

Robert was a member of the National Guard Association of Kentucky, the National Rifle Association and American Legion Post 34 in Lawrenceburg.

Robert leaves behind his wife, Juliane Wiedekamp DeZarn of Stanford; and their children, Debra Lynn DeZarn, her partner, Carol-Ann Smith, and her son, James-Michael Smith of Maryland; William Robert “Bill” DeZarn, and his wife, Cindy, of Cincinnati and their children, Jenny and Chris DeZarn; and Angela D. Todd and her husband, Jason, of Stanford.

An appreciation of life service will at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Fox Funeral Home in Stanford with the Rev. Richard Reed and Lt. Col. David Graetz and Capt. William Draper, chaplains, officiating.

Burial with full military honors by the Kentucky National Guard will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at College Hill Methodist Cemetery in Waco, with the Rev. Che Haselwood, Graetz and Draper officiating.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today, June 1, 2009, at the funeral home.

Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org) or the Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org).

Jewell Evelyn Robinson

Jewell Evelyn Robinson, 88, of Ashland, died Saturday in Boyd Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Miller Funeral Home in Ashland.



Walter Wilson (1924-2009)

Walter “Herb” Wilson, 85, of Mansfield, Ohio, formerly of Olive Hill, died Saturday in Mansfield Memorial Nursing Home.

He was born March 11, 1924, in Carter County.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill. Burial will be in Garvin Ridge Cemetery in Olive Hill.

Friends may call after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Zelma Logan Hamilton

Zelma Logan Hamilton, 97, of Sarasota, Fla., formerly of Lewis County, died Saturday in Springs of Lakepoint Wood Nursing Home in Sarasota.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Globe Funeral Chapel in Camp Dix.

Charlotte Pierce (1920-2009)

Charlotte J. Pierce, 88, of Franklin Furnace, died Saturday in a local health care center.

She was born July 13, 1920, in Ironton.

The funeral will be at noon Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home in Ironton. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Ironton.

Friends may call after 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
