Jewell Evelyn Robinson - 1920-2009

Jewell Evelyn Robinson, 88, of Ashland, passed Saturday night, May 30, 2009, in Boyd Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Dec. 30, 1920, in Willard, Ky., the daughter of the late Robert Harvey “Bert” and Johnna McDavid Miller.

She was a retired department manager for Sears Roebuck Co., a member of Sears Retiree Club, a member of Old Orchard Church of Christ for more than 50 years and served as a volunteer at King’s Daughters Hospital.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Burris G. Robinson and one sister, Floris Thompson.

She is survived by one son, Marlin Robinson of Ashland; one granddaughter, Evelyn T. Fernandez and her husband, Victor of Charleston, S.C.; one great-grandson, Aiden Fernandez of Charleston; one brother, Ralph E. Miller and his wife, Donna of Ashland; and two sisters, Elaine Gee of Russell, Ky., and Glenna Stevens of Grayson, Ky.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 4, 2009 at Miller Funeral Home in Ashland with Pastor Bill Kennedy officiating. Burial will follow in East Carter County Memory Gardens in Grayson.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Roy Eugene Prince - 1934-2009

Roy Eugene Prince, 75, of Ashland, died suddenly on Monday, June 1, 2009 in King’s Daughters Medical Center.

Mr. Prince was born April 24, 1934, a son of the late Donald Prince and Lillian Elizabeth Hall Prince Mullins but was raised by the late Green B. and Anna Bush Dennis, whom he called mom and dad. He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Dorothy Lance, Betty Thompson, Janet Patrick and Helen Robinette; and two brothers, Phillip Lee Prince and Donald Prince.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. After his military service, he went to work at Armco Steel where he retired in 1992 with 40 years of service in the inspection department. After retirement, he worked at Rose Hill Christian School as a security guard for more than 10 years, where he was loved by hundreds of children and affectionately known as Officer Roy. He currently was working as a chauffeur for Classy Limousine Service in Ashland. His most recent passion was woodcarving and was a member of the Ashland Area Woodcarvers Association and was a Kentucky colonel.

He had formerly been a member of the Gospel Tabernacle Church of God and attended Unity Baptist Church. He loved to meet people, never meeting a stranger he could often be found visiting and having conversations with everyone.

His family meant the world to him, survivors include his wife, Bonnie Irwin Prince and their two children, Aaron Michael (Tiffany) Prince and Amber Nicole Prince, all of Ashland; a niece and nephew whom he raised, Heather Irwin and Jeramie (Elizabeth) Irwin; his previous wife, Imogene Griffith Stewart and their children, Roy Lee (Dana Newsom) Prince of Raceland, Ky., Maria Ann Rademacher of Catlettsburg, Gina Lois Prince (Allen) Woods of Russell, Jerry Curtis (Diane) Prince and James Michael (Joyce) Blair; grandchildren, Jonathon Edward Ross, Justin Patrick Ross, Tiffany Michelle Rademacher, Trisha Marie Rademacher, Anna Lee Carr, Allison Lynn Prince and Kendell Renee Prince; great-grandchildren, Jason Patrick Ross, Gracie McCoy and Xavier Drake Davis; sister-in-law, Pamela (Charlie) Bowen; two half brothers, Jim (Pam) Prince and Bill Prince; and a special nephew and niece, Paul Green Lance and Mindy Ann Smith.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 4, 2009 at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Harold Cathey. Burial will follow in Ashland Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Ilah Roselle Blevins - 1928-2009

Our beloved Mother Ilah Roselle Wiley Blevins, 81, of Louisa, Ky., went to rest under the altar of our Lord, Sunday, May 31, 2009.

Ilah was born March 13, 1928, in Boyd County, Ky., the daughter of the late William Edward and Fannie Belle Dials Wiley. She was also preceded in death by one beloved son, Raymond Blevins; one sister, Inez Wiley Dean and six brothers, Ellis, Thomas, James, Woodrow, Harold Franklin and William Wiley.

She was a faithful member of the Old Sand Gap United Baptist Church for 63 years and helped her husband serve as a deacon since 1963. Mother was blessed to write many wonderful hymns still sung by her old church.

She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Joel Marvin “Biggin” Blevins; two daughters and sons-in-law, Diana and Jim Iams of Muncie, Ind., and Dixie and Bill Galloway of Kenova, W.Va.; four sons and daughters-in-law, William “Frank” and Carolyn Blevins of Louisa, Clayton “Gene” and Karen Blevins of Rush, Ky., Joel M. and Rose Marie Blevins II of Louisa and Freddie Blevins of Louisa; daughter-in-law, Ruby Blevins of Wheelersburg, Ohio; two brothers, Chester Wiley of Catlettsburg, Ky., and Paul Ed Wiley of Russell, Ky.; 12 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a host of friends and loved ones.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 4, 2009 at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland with Elders Jeffrey Carroll, Darris Lews, Perry Moore and Denval Gilliam officiating. Burial will follow in Blevins Memorial Gardens.

Mary Tussey Class - 1927-2009

Mary Tussey Class, 82, of Wilson Creek, died Thursday afternoon, May 28, 2009, at her residence.

She was born July 4, 1927, in Carter County, a daughter of the late Dennis and Essie Hutchinson Berry. She was a homemaker and a member of Straight Creek Freewill Baptist Church in Denton, Ky.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband of 49 years, Warren Tussey; a daughter, Rita Tussey Hall; a stepson, Scott Class; a brother, Robert “Bob” Berry; and three sisters, Mildred Adkins, Mabel Mullins and Alice Seagraves.

She is survived by her husband, Irvin Class of Alexandria, Ky.; two daughters, Gail (Leonard) Marshall of New Carlisle, Ohio, and Karen (Dale) Wilburn of Grayson; a stepson, Mark Class of Alexandria; a brother, Virgil Berry of Grayson; five granddaughters, Kara (Ben Vanderpool) Milem and Amanda Milem of Georgetown, Susan Harris of New Carlisle, Amy (Steve) Wilburn of Grayson and Lauren Class of Alexandria; seven grandsons, Donald “Bub” (Amanda) Ratcliff and Jeremy Hall, both of Hitchins, Zach Marshall and Ethan Owings, both of Georgetown, Zach Class of Alexandria, and Gavin and Kain Wilburn of Grayson. In addition to these, Mary is also survived by many nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends she loved dearly.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today, June 2, 2009, at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson by Lester Bowling. Burial will be in East Carter County Memory Gardens.

Walter Herbert “Herb” Wilson - 1924-2009

Walter Herbert “Herb” Wilson, age 85, of Mansfield, Ohio, formerly of Olive Hill, Ky., passed away, Saturday evening, May 30, 2009, in the Mansfield Memorial Nursing Home in Mansfield.

Mr. Wilson was born March 11, 1924, in Carter County, Ky., a son of the late Robert and Myrtle Holbrook Wilson.

Herb was disabled and of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Noah Wilson and Woodrow Wilson; six sisters, Lola Wilson, Gracie Wilson, Christine Wilson, Maxine Gregory, Kathleen Blevins and Bessie Flannery; three brothers-in-law, Arlon Sparks, Richard Stone and Charles Miller; and one sister-in-law, Edna Lou Wilson.

Herb is survived by two brothers, Robert Wilson Jr. and wife, Lillie and Homer Jack Wilson and fiancée, Irene Perrine, all of Mansfield; and two sisters, Mildred Stone of Butler, Ohio, and Betty Miller of Mansfield. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will sadly miss him.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. today, June 2, 2009, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill with Brother Bobby Day officiating. Burial will follow in the Garvin Ridge Cemetery in Olive Hill.

Friends may call after 10 a.m. today until the service hour at the funeral home.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Violet Blankenship - 1922-2009

Violet Blankenship, age 87, of Olive Hill, Ky., passed away, Monday morning, June 1, 2009, in the Carter Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Grayson, Ky.

Ms. Blankenship was born April 15, 1922, in Carter County, Ky., a daughter of the late Thomas and Parthena Tackett Blankenship.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Mills Branch Apostolic Church in Olive Hill.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Ernest Blankenship; two sisters, Mescal Waddell Morman and Vivian Hickman; three infant siblings; three nephews, Henry Hickman, Larry Blankenship and Bill Blankenship; one niece, Pam Crank; and one great-niece, Samantha “Sam” Holbrook.

Violet is survived by a brother, Gilbert Blankenship of Tacoma, Wash.; and one sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Odis Crank of Olive Hill. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill with Brother Larry Joe Ruley officiating. Burial will follow in the Tackett Cemetery on Henderson Branch Road in Olive Hill.

Kathy Jean Collins - 1958-2009

Kathy Jean Collins, 51, of Flatwoods, formerly of Grayson, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Sunday in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

She was born April 7, 1958, in Grayson, Ky., a daughter of Garnett Jewell Carroll Collins of Grayson and the late Harry Collins. She was a LPN with Kingsbrook Lifecare Center in Ashland and a devoted mother, grandmother and Christian. She was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Collins.

She is survived by one son, Charles Nathan and his wife, Shawna Rice of Grayson; one daughter, Carly Rice of Flatwoods; two sisters, Karen Burton of Grayson and Debbie Stringfellow of Buford, S.C.; two brothers, Bob Collins of Reno, Nev., and Rex Collins of Grayson; and one grandson, Little Bubby Nathan Rice.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at the Malone Funeral Home in Grayson with Chuck Lawrence officiating. Burial will be in East Carter County Memorial Gardens.

Isabella Marie Arthur, 10, daughter of Jeannie Gray Arthur, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2009 at her home.

brother, Ross Arthur; two sisters, Shayla and Courtney Arthur; and grandmother, Carol C. Gray, all of Richmond; aunt, Lisa Rearden (Andy) of Ashland, Ky.; uncle, Jeff Gray (Tina) of Winchester, Ky.; cousin, Connor Ashton Gray; and nurse and caregivers, Lynn Hill and Jennifer Tipton.

Michael O. Pugh, 56, formerly of Ashland, died May 27 in Lexington.

His wife, Jeanie Dalton Pugh, survives.

Roseleen Roden, 63, of Ashland, died Monday in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.

She was born July 3, 1945, in Wyandotte, Mich.

Her husband, Ted Roden, survives.
