Roy Eugene Prince - 1934-2009
Roy Eugene Prince, 75, of Ashland, died suddenly on Monday, June 1, 2009 in King’s Daughters Medical Center.
Mr. Prince was born April 24, 1934, a son of the late Donald Prince and Lillian Elizabeth Hall Prince Mullins but was raised by the late Green B. and Anna Bush Dennis, whom he called Mom and Dad. He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Dorothy Lance, Betty Thompson, Janet Patrick and Helen Robinette; and two brothers, Phillip Lee Prince and Donald Prince.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. After his military service, he went to work at Armco Steel where he retired in 1992 with 40 years of service in the inspection department. After retirement, he worked at Rose Hill Christian School as a security guard for more than 10 years, where he was loved by hundreds of children and affectionately known as Officer Roy. He currently was working as a chauffeur for Classy Limousine Service in Ashland. His most recent passion was woodcarving and was a member of the Ashland Area Woodcarvers Association and was a Kentucky colonel.
He had formerly been a member of the Gospel Tabernacle Church of God and attended Unity Baptist Church. He loved to meet people, never meeting a stranger he could often be found visiting and having conversations with everyone.
His family meant the world to him, survivors include his wife, Bonnie Irwin Prince and their two children, Aaron Michael (Tiffany) Prince and Amber Nicole Prince, all of Ashland; a niece and nephew whom he raised, Heather Irwin and Jeramie (Elizabeth) Irwin; his previous wife, Imogene Griffith Stewart and their children, Roy Lee (Dana Newsom) Prince of Raceland, Ky., Maria Ann Rademacher of Catlettsburg, Gina Lois Prince (Allen) Woods of Russell, Jerry Curtis (Diane) Prince and stepson, James Michael (Joyce) Blair; grandchildren, Madison Paige Prince, Jonathan Edward Ross, Justin Patrick Ross, Tiffany Michelle Rademacher, Trisha Marie Rademacher, Anna Lee Carr, Allison Lynn Prince and Kendell Renee Prince; great-grandchildren, Jason Patrick Ross, Gracie McCoy and Xavier Drake Davis; sister-in-law, Pamela (Charlie) Bowen; two half brothers, Jim (Pam) Prince and Bill Prince; and a special nephew and niece, Paul Green Lance and Mindy Ann Smith.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 4, 2009 at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. Harold Cathey. Burial will follow in Ashland Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

James P. Davis - 1938-2009
James P. Davis, age 70, of Ashland, Ky., died Monday afternoon, June 1, 2009 in Community Hospice Care Center.
He was born June 15, 1938, in Flat Gap, Ky., a son of the late P.V. and Stella Cantrell Davis.
He was retired with more than 30 years of service from Ashland Oil Inc. as an asphalt tech sales representative. He was an Army National Guard veteran, a member of First United Methodist Church in Ashland, a 1955 graduate of Boyd County High School and earned his bachelor’s in business administration from Morehead University.
Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Keren Phillips Davis of Ashland; a daughter, Amy Smith and husband, David of Ashland; and a sister, Berta Hensley and husband, Lawrence of Versailles, Ky.
A graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 4, 2009, at Ashland Cemetery Mausoleum by Chaplain Jimm Smedley.
Entombment will follow in Ashland Cemetery Mausoleum.

Roseleen Roden - 1945-2009
Roseleen Roden, age 63, of Ashland, Ky., died Monday, June 1, 2009, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.
Mrs. Roden was born July 3, 1945, in Wyandotte, Mich., a daughter of the late James Hunter and Sarah Adkins Hunter.
She was a retired coder with Trumbull Memorial Hospital and a member of Eastern Star No. 10 of Grayson, Moose Lodge, Eagles and Greenup County AMVETS.
Surviving are her husband, Ted Roden; two daughters and sons-in-law, Julie and Rick Powell of Warren, Ohio, and Laurie and Jack Roden Hanners of Ashland; and five grandchildren, Michael Powell, Joshua Hanners, Sarah Vanatter, Alysan Powell and Skyler Hanners.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 5, 2009, at East Carter County Memory Gardens.

Gaines Edgar Walker - 1923-2009
Gaines Edgar Walker, 85, passed away May 30, 2009, in Norfolk, Va., in Lake Taylor Medical Center.
He was born July 15, 1923, in Beetle, Ky., the son of the late Harry and Betty Adams Walker and the widower of Alice C. Griffith Walker.
He was a retired chief petty officer from the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of WWII and retired from the U.S. Post Office. He was a member of Ocean View Baptist Church, Willard Masonic Lodge No. 626 F&AM; in Willard, Ky., Ocean View Masonic Lodge No. 335 F&AM; in Norfolk, Khedive Shrine Temple, Norfolk Scottish Rite Bodies and York Rite (Knights Templar) in Norfolk, Order of Eastern Star (OES) Chapter No. 34 in Norfolk, Norfolk Royal Arch Chapter No. 1, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) No. 3160 in Norfolk, and American Legion Post No. 327 in Norfolk and was a Kentucky colonel.
He is survived by three brothers, Wilbur H. Walker of Scott Depot, W.Va., Calvin W. Walker of Powhatan Point, Ohio, and Leondas E. Walker of Grayson. He is also survived by a beloved friend, Lillian White of Norfolk; eight nephews; 15 great-nephews; six nieces; 10 great-nieces; 34 great-great-nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends to mourn his passing.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home Tidewater Drive Chapel in Norfolk by the Rev. Ernest Trueblood. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park.
The family will be at the funeral home from 6 to 7:30 p.m. tonight.

Burnice Emogene Lyons - 1924-2009
Burnice Emogene Lyons, age 84, of Olive Hill, Ky., passed away, Monday evening, June 1, 2009, in the Life Care Center in Morehead, Ky.
Ms. Lyons was born Nov. 20, 1924, in Carter County, Ky., a daughter of the late Clarence and Bessie Tackett Lyons.
She loved spending time with her family and friends and she was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Mary Hedge Lyons; two brothers, John “Jack” Phillip Lyons and McArthur Lyons; and one sister, Pauline Lyons Bailey.
Burnice is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Donna Lyons and Clarence “Frankie” and Jeanne Lyons, all of Olive Hill; three sisters, Myra Carroll and Jorene Lyons Griffey, both of Olive Hill, and Floretta Cameron of Ashland, Ky.; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 4, 2009, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill with Brother Andy Lyons and Brother J.C. Bond officiating. Burial will follow in the Garvin Ridge Cemetery in Olive Hill.
