James Elwood Traugott - 1925-2009
James Elwood “Freight Train” Traugott, 83, of Ashland, died Saturday at his residence.
He was born Oct. 21, 1925, in Ashland, the son of the late Louis and Mary Ellen Bruger Traugott. His loving wife of 60 years, Helen Collins Traugott, survives.
He attended Ashland High School and Summit Missionary Baptist Church. He retired in 1991 from the AK Coke Plant and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he served from 1943 through 1946.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Gary Richard Traugott; a brother, Jack Traugott; and a sister, Anna Traugott Workman.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son and daughter-in-law, James Michael (Nadine) Traugott of Ashland; two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda Traugott Porter and Tammy Traugott (Brett) Hall, all of Ashland; a sister, Sarah Traugott Goble of Ashland; grandchildren Melissa (Scott) Pierce, Christopher Hall and Megan Hall, all of Ashland, and Aaron Hatfield of Mount Holly, N.C.; and great-grandchildren Sydni and Nicholas Pierce of Ashland and Zachary Hatfield of Mount Holly.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland by Brother Earl Hazel. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Raymond I. Klein - 1923-2009
Raymond I. “Ray” Klein, 85, of Catlettsburg, died Friday in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
He was born June 14, 1923, in Louisville, the son of the late Peter W. Klein and Mary Peterworth Klein. He was the widower of Virginia A. Stettenbenz Klein, who died on May 1, 1997. He was an office services manager at Ashland Oil, where he retired in 1989. He was a member of Holy Family Church of Ashland and was a 44th-degree knight with the Knights of Columbus.
He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter.
Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond “Rick” and Mary Ann Klein of Jackson, Miss., Paul G. and Mary Klein of Middletown, Ohio, Michael “Tony” and Cindy Klein of Besse, Ill., and Mark G. and Kimberly Klein of Ashland; five daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia “Pat” and Dan Lake of Catlettsburg, Bonnie and Ed Pettapiece of Lexington, Marie A. and Clyde Bolton of Kansas City, Kan., Rebecca S. and Glen Cole of Catlettsburg and Pamela Jo Klein of Knoxville, Tenn.; 21 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Bernadette Karbbs of Louisville.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Church by the Rev. John P. Noe. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland.
Henrietta Caines Abbott - 1923-2009
Henrietta Caines Abbott, 86, of Russell, died Sunday, June 7, 2009, at her home.
She was born Feb. 13, 1923, the daughter of the late James Caines and Stella Williams. She was the widow of Arthur Abbott. She was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal faith.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Terri Abbott of Russell; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Gloria and Louis Redden of Russell, Linda Hammond of Flatwoods and Nancy and Bert Allie of Atlanta, Ga.; a brother, Bill Abbott of Ashland; three sisters, Betty Ashley, Margaret Hanks and Barbara Staton, all of Ashland; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods by the Rev. Shane Cox and the Rev. Christopher Hammond. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
