Steven Lee Himes (1965-2009)

Steven Lee Himes, 43, of Ashland, Ky., died Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 21, 1965, in Peru, Ind.

He was a laborer with Ross Brothers Construction and was a U.S. Marines veteran.

Surviving are his father and stepmother, Scotty and Shirley Himes and mother, Jo D. Robertson Himes; his wife, Donna Roberts Himes; a son, Landon Himes at home; a daughter, Alyssa Himes at home; a stepchild, Kayla Roberts at home; a stepbrother, Danny Riggs of Corbin, Ky.; two stepsisters, Kathy Hood and Janet Riggs, both of Ashland; a brother, Terry Himes of Portland, Ore.; two half brothers, Scott Bergamini and Duane Bergamini, both of Arizona; a sister, Sherry McKnight of Pocahontas, Ill.; and three half sisters, Cathy Clevenger of Arizona, Kathy Ross of Columbus, Ohio, and Tanis Kathay of New Mexico.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today, June 13, 2009, at Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland by Dallas Sutton. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Friends may call after 11 a.m. today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the funeral home to help with burial expenses.



James Chester Tackett (1936-2009)

With friends and family gathered around him, on Tuesday, June 9, 2009, James Chester Tackett entered into his heavenly home. He was a loving husband and a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Gertrude McCarty Tackett.

He was born Aug. 11, 1936, a son of the late Ernest W. and Lucy Johnson Tackett. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Dolly Ethel Robbins.

Chester served our country in the Kentucky National Guard for 24 years. For 18 years, he loved and represented the children and youth of Boyd County as a member of the Boyd County Board of Education.

He was a member of Mavity Free Will Baptist Church, where he was a deacon for many years. For the past 30 years, he was a general contractor, and his greatest labor of love was his part in the building of the new Mavity church. This was perhaps the building that brought him the most satisfaction in his life.

Chester touched lives everywhere he went and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is also survived by his daughters, Ellen Keaton (Larry) and Cheri Westholder (Robert), both of Catlettsburg; six grandchildren, Stephan (Sarah) Johnson, Michael (Debbie) Arnett, April (Thomas) Sellars, Stephanie (Rob) Lucas and Nikki (Todd) Conn, all of Catlettsburg, and Tiffany Westholder of Huntington, W.Va.; five great-grandchildren, Hunter Johnson, Jordan Lucas, Alexis Arnett (and her mother, Tiffany Arnett), Samuel Johnson and Maggy Grace Johnson; and a brother-in-law, Lonnie Robbins.

A celebration of Chester’s life will be at 11 a.m. today, June 13, 2009, at Mavity Free Will Baptist Church at the junction of Ky. 180 and Ky. 3.

Pastor Mike Gullett and the Rev. Mike Cox will offer words of hope and encouragement. Burial will be in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens, where a military service will be performed by American Legion Kenova Post 93.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Mavity Free Will Baptist Church, P.O. Box 5068, Ashland, KY 41102.

Robert Leroy “Bob” Davis Sr. (1944-2009)

Robert Leroy “Bob” Davis Sr., 64, of South Shore, Ky., died Wednesday, June 10, 2009, in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.

He was born Nov. 11, 1944, in Galesburg, Ill., a son of the late Jewell Robert Davis and Mary Johnson Davis. He was retired from CSX Railroad as a carman, an Army veteran and of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are his wife, Loretta Nelson Davis of South Shore; two sons, Robert Leroy Davis Jr. of South Shore and Matthew Shane (Chanda) Davis of Tollesboro, Ky.; one daughter, Missy Davis (Mark) Layne of Ashland; and grandchildren are Kylee Brook Davis, Cameron Robert Davis, Matthew Shane Davis Jr., Trevor Gage Davis, Courtney Shannon Layne, Kayla Rachelle Rogers, Isaac McCane and Nathaniel Porter.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, June 15, 2009, at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore with the Rev. Glenn Newsome and the Rev. Michael Cooper officiating. Burial will be in Davis Cemetery, Beechy Creek Road, South Shore.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Military graveside services will be by James L. Flannery American Legion Post 276 of South Shore.



Gladys McKee (1937-2009)

Gladys McKee, 72, of Russell, died Thursday at her residence.

She was born Feb. 13, 1937.

Her husband, Robert “Gene” McKee, preceded her in death.

A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Evans Funeral Home in Raceland.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to help with funeral expenses.



Terry “Pete” McKinney (1936-2009)

Terry L. “Pete” McKinney, 73, of Louisa, died Thursday in Louisa.

He was born Jan. 21, 1936, in Ethel, W.Va.

His wife, Nancy Ratcliff McKinney, survives.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Young Funeral Home in Louisa. Burial will be in McKinney Cemetery in Louisa.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.



Gabriel “Gabe” Alderman (1923-2009)

Gabriel “Gabe” Alderman, 85, of Morehead, died Thursday in Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

He was born Nov. 19, 1923, and was the husband of Billie McClain Alderman.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Burial will be in Brown Cemetery in Morehead.
