William George “Bill” Cox - 1933-2012

RACELAND — William George “Bill” Cox, 79, of Raceland, entered heaven’s gates on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, in King’s Daughters Medical Center.

Mr. Cox was born at home in Raceland on July 23, 1933, to the late Matt and Marguerite Reed Cox.

Bill was a graduate of Raceland High School Class of 1952 as well as Morehead State University with a degree in psychology. He was a member of 13th Street Baptist Church in Ashland and he served his country honorably in the United States Air Force. He also retired from the Federal Correctional Institution in Summit following 37 years of service.

Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by three brothers, Thomas M. Cox, Ronald Reed Cox and David Roger Cox; and one sister, Janice Lee Hapney.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Joyce Ann Cox of Raceland; his adoring daughter, Lori Lynn Bush and her husband, Roger, of Raceland; and his proud son, Brett Cox of Raceland. Bill also leaves behind three grandchildren who were the light of his life, Laura Cox Townson of Los Angeles, Calif., B J Cox of Ashland and Bronson Bush of Raceland. He is also survived by a very special daughter-in-law, Marilyn Thompson-Cox of Ashland; one sister, Laurel Faye Thompson of Roanoke, Va.; and two brothers, Charles “Bud” Cox of Parkersburg, W.Va., and James P. Cox of New Iberia, La., as well as many family members and friends who will miss his sense of humor, his golf skills and his joyful singing.

Funeral services will be at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, with the Rev. Tom Stephens officiating. Burial will follow in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today and one hour before service time at the funeral home.
