Gladys Jeanine Wallace Bugg - 1914-2013

GREENWOOD, SC — Gladys Jeanine Wallace Bugg, 98, widow of Walter E. Bugg, a resident of Jasmine Cottage, Wesley Commons, Greenwood, S.C., and a longtime resident of Ashland, passed away Friday, March 15, 2013.  

She was born Dec. 10, 1914, in Elkhorn City, to the late John A. and Pearl Wallace. Gladys was also preceded in death by her brother, Sam Wallace; and sisters Peg Patton, Florence Webb, Rose Cure and Thelma Looney.

Gladys taught Sunday school for many years at First United Methodist Church in Ashland, where she was a member for more than 60 years. As part of the greatest generation, she spent her war years making parachutes for American servicemen.  

Surviving are her two children — a son, Timothy C. Bugg and wife Terri of Canadaigua, N.Y., and a daughter, Virginia Lee Wallace and husband John C. of Easley, S.C.; six grandchildren, Dr. Stephanie Weaver of Chicago, John Kouns of Phoenix, Lauren Bugg of Hammond, La., Dr. Jennifer Casey of Austin, Texas, Marci Taylor of Chelsea, Ala., and Jason Wallace of Seneca, S.C.; and nine great-grandchildren, Sophia Weaver, Rosalind Weaver, Ruth Isabel Weaver, Lily Schexnaydre, Charlotte Kouns, Lydia Kouns, Jordan Taylor, Joshua Taylor and Abigail Taylor.  

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2013, at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland by the Rev. John Street. Interment will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.  

The family will receive friends after 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, friends may make contributions in memory of Gladys to the First United Methodist Church Nursery, 1811 Carter Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.
