John William Blackburn - 1941-2012

ASHLAND — John William “Willie” Blackburn, 71, of Ashland, passed away Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, in Community Hospice Care Center surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Blackburn was born Feb. 23, 1941, in Catlettsburg, a son of the late William Russell and Karl Hermia Scott Blackburn.

He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was a carpenter for Local 472 for 50 years. He was an expert rifleman and of the Baptist faith.

Willie is survived by his children, son, John William Blackburn II of Ashland; and daughter, Johnda Ray and her husband, Robert, of Ashland. Loving grandfather to Madison and Morgan, who were the apples of his eye; brothers, Charles Lee Blackburn of Ashland and Phillip Russell Blackburn (Betty) of South Shore; sisters, Charollet Forrest (Donald) and Shirley Adams (Gary), both of Ashland.

The funeral for Mr. Blackburn will be at 11 a.m. Monday Dec. 31, 2012, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home in Catlettsburg. Pastor Gary Arrington will officiate. Burial will follow in Catlettsburg cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 93, Kenova, W.Va.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Funeral Home.
