ASHLAND —
Rita Anne Stump, 90, of Ashland, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013.
Rita was born March 21, 1922, in Ashland, the only child of Robert W. Hyman and Marie Pfaffenberger Hyman. She and her parents were lifelong residents of Ashland.
She attended Holy Family grade school and graduated valedictorian from Holy Family High School and Ashland Business College. She was married to her high school sweetheart, Howard R. Stump, for 61 years. She was a devout Catholic and member of Holy Family Parish for more than 80 years.
Rita is survived by her eight children, Michael, Robert, Anne Haller (Michael) and Maria Withrow, all of Ashland, Sarah Kolb (Fred) of Cape Coral, Fla., Richard (Tammy Jo) of Clearwater, Fla., Brian (Vicki) of Nicholasville, and Kevin (Jane) of Birmingham, Ala.; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law, Bernadine King and Mida Stump of Cincinnati.
Rita was an accomplished musician and pianist, and an active regional officer and leader in Girl Scouts. She enjoyed her bridge parties and members, and also loved reading a good book.
A funeral Mass will be said at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Holy Family Church in Ashland.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 4, 2013, at Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland and an hour before services Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent in her name to Community Hospice, 1480 Carter Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.
