Patricia K. “Trish” Mahlmeister - 1938-2013

ASHLAND — Patricia K. “Trish” Mahlmeister of Ashland died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, after a long illness.  

Patricia was born May 5, 1938, in Ashland, the only child of Paul and Beulah Henry Kelly.

She attended grade school and graduated from Holy Family High School. Patricia was very interested in medical research. She graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a degree in medical technology. Patricia was a devout Catholic all her life and was currently a member of St. Lawrence O’Toole Church in Ironton, Ohio.  

Patricia had a varied career in teaching. She taught fourth and fifth grade in Tennessee, high school science in Lake Charles, La., and a medical program at Washington State Community College in Marietta, Ohio. Patricia was very involved with church, school and community activities wherever she was living. She was neighborhood chairman of the Girl Scouts in Goldendale, Wash., and was selected “Mother of the Year” in Goldendale in 1979. Patricia was grand sultana of the Order of Alhambra in Lake Charles, La.

Patricia was much loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Patricia is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Patrick Mahlmeister; and her three children, Amy Mahlmeister of Lemoyne, Pa., Kelly (George) Soule of Camp Hill, Pa., and Michael Paul Mahlmeister of Ironton; and a very cherished grandson, Michael Soule. She is also survived by five cousins whom she considered to be like sisters, Martha Ward, Brenda Nickell Platt and Mary Ellen Nickell, all of Ashland, Teresa Nickell Wilkins of Erlanger and Carroll Kelly Morrison of Clarksburg, W.Va.

Her funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at Holy Family Church in Ashland, co-celebrated by Father Hoffman, pastor of St. Lawrence O’Toole Church in Ironton, and Father Noe, pastor of Holy Family Church in Ashland. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Ironton.

Visitation will be an hour before the funeral at the church. The rosary will be recited by grandson Michael Soule at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland is in charge of arrangements.
