ASHLAND —
John Robert Barr, 71, of Ashland, husband of Lois Blevins Barr, died Monday evening, Jan. 28, 2013, in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland following an extended illness.
John was born Nov. 27, 1941, in Portsmouth, Ohio, a son of the late Grover and Lucille McDaniel Barr. John was retired from the U.S. Army and the City of Ashland Department of Water Works. He was a member of Central Christian Church in Portsmouth and American Legion Post 76 in Ashland.
He was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Jessie Barr; a son, Brent Blevins; and a sister, Jan Reback.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by a son, Johnny Barr of Ashland; a daughter, Catrina Bryant of Ashland; a brother, Charles Barr and wife Judy of Canal Winchester, Ohio; two half brothers, Lynn Barr of Missoula, Mont., and Jeffery Barr of Portsmouth; a sister, Susie Brown of Ravenswood, W.Va.; two half sisters, Shannon Barr of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, and Maxie Moore and husband Claude of Laurel, Md.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, by Pastor Ron Mays at Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland. Burial will be in Blevins Family Cemetery, with military honors by Ironton VFW Post 8850.
Visitation will be after noon Friday at the funeral home.
