Suzanne P. Sloan Shope - 1920-2013

CATLETTSBURG — Suzanne P. Sloan “Granny” Shope, 93, of Catlettsburg, now rests peacefully with her Lord after her passing Wednesday evening, Feb. 6, 2013, at her home, surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Shope was born Jan. 17, 1920, in Boyd County.

Preceding her in death, her devoted husband, Howard A. Shope of 72 years. The daughter of the late Alex E. Sloan and Hazel L. O’Brian Sloan. Also preceding in death were three brothers and three sisters.

Suzanne was of the Baptist faith and a devoted housewife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and loved to sit and swing on the front porch.

Left behind is a son, Jim Shope (Pat) of Russell; three daughters, Patty Shope, Helen Siders and Judy Eaton and her husband, the late Bob Eaton, all of Catlettsburg; a sister, Clara Robinette and her husband, the late Eddie Robinette of Ashland; and two brothers, Joe Sloan (Ann) of Catlettsburg, and John Earl Sloan of South Webster, Ohio; grandchildren, Tammy Shope of Catlettsburg, Howard Siders (Kellie) of Berremer City, N.C., Jim Siders (Ranee) of Catlettsburg, Jason Eaton (Melissa) of Virginia, and Melissa Eaton (Eddie Peterman, Jr.) of Ashland; and great-grandchildren, LCPL Robert Whitaker and Brianna Whitaker, McKenna Eaton and Hannah, Jake, Grace, Alex and Shaylee Siders.

The funeral celebrating Suzanne Shope’s life will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home in Catlettsburg. Burial will follow in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and one hour prior to services on Monday at the Funeral Home.

Casket bearers will be Jim Shope, Eddie Peterman, Jr., Jason Eaton, Howard Siders, James Siders and Joe Groves.
