Eleanor Reed Stone Schneider 1914-2012

ASHLAND — Eleanor Reed Stone Schneider, age 98, formerly of Ashland, died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at The Woodlands Retirement Community in Huntington, W.Va.

She was born Aug. 12, 1914, in Earlington, a daughter of the late John R. Reed and Lovie Tyson Reed.

She was also preceded in death by husbands, John E. Stone in 1969 and John F. Schneider in 2006.

She was a homemaker, a lifelong member of The Christian Church Disciples of Christ and an active member of The First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Ashland, where she was very active in various committees and active in the Christian Womens Fellowship. She was an associate member of Friends of the Children, a volunteer and supporter of the Highlands Museum & Discovery Center, a former Girl Scout leader, active in the PTA and a graduate of Transylvania College in 1936 and a member of Phi Mu.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Andrea Stone and Mike Bales of Lexington and Barbara Stone and Ron Clark of Ashland; one stepchild and spouse, Stewart and Kathy Schneider of Ashland; four grandchildren, Diane Bales, Alison Bales Martin, Mary Stapleton Davy and John Michael Stapleton; a stepgrandchild, Kathleen Schneider Evans; and six great-grandchildren, Jack and Luke Davy, Jeb and Reed Martin and Fiona and Riley Stapleton.

The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Ashland by Dr. Ike Nicholson. A committal service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at Lexington Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the church.

Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland is in charge of arrangements.
