Martha Ann Daniel 1935-2012

ASHLAND — Martha Ann Daniel of Ashland passed peacefully from this world on Dec. 5, 2012.

She was born March 8, 1935, in Paintsville and lived there until she married James Earl Daniel on Dec. 20, 1953.  Following his graduation from dental school at the University of Louisville, they moved to Ashland and enjoyed a lifelong romance that lasted some 42 years until his death in 1996.

Martha Ann graduated from Paintsville High School, was a loving mother and homemaker, a technology junkie, a counselor and avid stock trader, in addition to being a member of the Tuesday day and Thursday night bridge clubs, whose members were her cherished friends for decades. Martha Ann was also a poet and master storyteller with three published children’s books to her credit. She was a generous, funny and loving person by nature, as evidenced by her youngest grandson’s recent observation, “Everybody loves Mimi.”

She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. James Earl Daniel; her parents, Ernest and Sue Meek; and her in-laws, David and Susie Daniel. She will be forever missed by her three children and their spouses, Teresa Ann Daniel (Gary Stephen Metcalf), Lisa Michelle Daniel and James Earl Daniel II (Cheri DePriest Daniel); by her five grandsons, Joseph Daniel Wright, Stephen Arthur Metcalf, James Wesley Daniel, Ethan Reed Daniel and Zachary James Daniel; and by many other relatives and dear friends.

A memorial service and celebration of her life will be led by the Rev. Isaac Nicholson at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Ashland.

Friends may call after 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Her burial and commitment will take place following the service at Rose Hill Mausoleum in Ashland.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to honor her memory be made to the First Christian Church Food Pantry, 1930 Winchester Ave., Ashland, KY 41101, as she felt strongly about meeting the needs of those who are hungry.

Steen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Condolences may be sent to steenfuneralhome.com.
