CARTER —
Fred Sammons, 73, of Grayson, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, at his residence.
He was born April 23, 1939, in Hitchins, a son of the late Ward and Ottie Humphry Sammons.
Fred was a retired English and German teacher at East Carter and Prichard high schools. He was a member of Stinson Church of Christ and the Carter County Retired Teachers Association, and was a moderator of the Carter County Spelling Bee. Most recently, he was night auditor at Guesthouse Suites.
He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Audie Stewart Sammons; his second wife, Janie Hawes Sammons; four brothers, Marion Chaffins, John Chaffins, Ernest Chaffins and Billy G. Sammons; and a sister, Eunice Chaffins Lyons.
His survivors include four sons, Michael Sammons, Donald (Beth) Sammons, Charles (Michelle) Sammons and John (Amy) Suttles, all of Grayson; a daughter, Lora (Bob Hutchinson) Suttles of Paintsville; a sister, Vada Sammons May of Grayson; 10 grandchildren, Jarred Sammons, Taylor Sammons, Tanner Sammons, Noah Sammons, Eli Sammons, Harlan Sammons, Sierra Sammons, George Suttles, Molly Suttles and Willie Suttles; a great-grandchild, Alyssa Suttles; and a host of nephews, nieces and loved ones.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson by John Sergent. Burial will be in East Carter County Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today, Oct. 11 at the funeral home.
