Jerry Ray Jarrell

STAMPING GROUND — Jerry Ray Jarrell, 73, of Stamping Ground, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington after a long battle with kidney disease.  

He was the husband of the late Vera Lynn Burt Jarrell. He was preceded in death by one son, Jerry Russell Jarrell.

A native of Logan, W.Va., he was the son of the late Vernon Ray Jarrell and Ruth Lee Jarrell, both of Logan, W.Va. Jerry served 21 years in the U.S. Navy and retired as Senior Chief Petty Officer with the Seabees. He retired as a career diplomat after 18 years of service with the Department of State.

Survivors include his four children, Larry (Gloria) Jarrell of Georgetown, Michael (Agatha-Feltus) Jarrell of Noblesville, Ind., Angie (fiance Dirk) Jarrell of Woodbridge, Va., and Jeremy Jarrell of Stamping Ground; two brothers, Johnny Jarrell of Dallas, Texas, and Billy Jarrell of Nebraska; two sisters, Sue Bentley and Betty Porter, both of Ashland; grandchildren, Tina, Larry Jr., Kenneth, Tecumseh, Jadzia, Brandy, Tiffany, Russell, David, Lorna and Jason; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Malone Funeral Home by Bruce Brylinski. Burial will follow in the Cribbs Hill Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be provided by the East Carter Jr. ROTC.  

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday.
