Joel Marvin Blevins 1925-2012

LOUISA — Our loving, caring, giving father, Joel Marvin “Biggen” Blevins, 87, of Louisa, obeyed his Savior’s call on Sunday, July 8, 2012.

Dad was begotten by the word of God and sealed by his Holy Spirit in May 1958. He was a faithful member of Old Sand Gap United Baptist Church and was an ordained deacon for 49 years. He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran and retired from Armco Steel Corp. (AK Steel) as a manipulator in the hot strip mill.

Joel was born Feb. 6, 1925, in Greenup County, a son of the late William David and Dosha Louvinia Love Blevins. He was als preceded in death by his precious wife of 65 years, Ilah Roselle Wiley Blevins; a beloved son, Raymond Mitchel Blevins; and 15 brothers and sisters, Martin, Benjamin, Holly, Mitchel, Buck, Manford, Andy, Frankie, Bradley, Lloyd, Tish, Edith, Jane, Cora and Dora.

Left to mourn his passing are his loving children, Dianna and husband Jim Iams, Dixie and husband William H. “Bill” Galloway Jr., William Franklin and wife Carolyn Blevins, Clayton Eugene and wife Karen Blevins, Joel Marvin Jr. and wife Rose “Kitty” Blevins and Freddie Dale Blevins; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and a great number of nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. All who knew this sweet man will miss him.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland by Elder Daris Lewis, Elder Jeff Carroll and Elder Davis Wolfenbarger. Burial with military rites will be in Blevins Memorial Gardens in Greenup County.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
