Loreada G. Stephens Pelfrey (1920-2010)

Loreada G. Stephens Pelfrey, 89, of Olive Hill, Ky., passed away Saturday morning, Jan. 16, 2010, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.

Mrs. Pelfrey was born July 1, 1920, in Carter County, Ky., a daughter of the late Edward and Nettie Jesse Stephens.

Loreada was retired from the Germantown School System in Ohio, where she was a teacher for many years. She was a graduate of Miami University and attended Morehead State University. She was a Christian and a member of Fairview Methodist Church, the Soldier Homemakers Club and the Carter County Republican Woman’s Club. She was a Kentucky colonel.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Warren G. Pelfrey; a grandson, Gary Bair; a great-grandson, Nick McDonald; and two brothers, Burl Stephens and Paul Stephens.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Merle Byrd of Owingsville, Ky., and Carolyn Sue and Don Hopkins of Brodhead, Ky.; three grandchildren, Tracey and husband Donnie Stamper of Olive Hill, Pam and husband Pat and Dean and wife Robin Byrd, all of West Carrollton, Ohio; and six great-grandchildren, Jesse Stamper, Sean McDonald, Connor McDonald, Meghan McDonald, Miranda McDonald and Michael Byrd. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, other extended family members, neighbors and friends who will sadly mourn her passing.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010, at Oney-Henderson Funeral Home in Olive Hill with Brother Bob Burton officiating. Burial was in Jr. OUAM Cemetery in Olive Hill.

Visitation was after 6 p.m. Jan. 18 and until services Jan. 19 at the funeral home.

Family and friends served as pallbearers.



Dorotha Carol Godbey Collins (1920-2010)

Dorotha Carol Godbey Collins, 89, of Maysville, died Monday, Feb. 1, 2010.

Mrs. Collins was born July 10, 1920, in Germantown, to the late Rev. Luther C. and Lelia Teager Godbey.

Mrs. Collins had recently moved to Friendship House in Grayson to live near her daughter.

She is survived by her son, Johnnie Collins, and daughter-in-law Evelyn Collins of Wellston, Ohio, and her daughter, Carolyn Wooten, and son-in-law William “Bud” Wooten of Grayson.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Knox and Brothers Funeral Home in Maysville by her grandson-in-law, the Rev. Mike Sams.

Mary Jean (Weingates) Higgins (1924–2010)

Mary Jean (Weingates) Higgins, 86, of Sandusky, passed away Monday morning, Feb. 1, 2010, in Firelands Regional Medical Center.

Mary was born Jan 23, 1924, in Sandusky, to the late Mary Ester (Nesselhauf) and Joseph Weingates. Mary was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sandusky and a member the Daughters of Isabella.

She had worked for Ohio Bell and Michel’s Bakery and was a homemaker and loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her sons, Edward (Linda) Higgins of Lafayette, Ind., and Larry (Ann) Higgins of Ashland, Ky.; a daughter, Jean (Ed) Ryan of Bellevue, Ohio; grandchildren Jennifer Landes, Matthew Higgins, Andrea Higgins, Dr. Kristin Ryan, Timothy Ryan, Alissa Durbin, Amy Higgins and Kelly Higgins; and great-grandchildren Sierra Goggin, and Kameryn Durbin.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Joseph A. Weingates.

Friends may call from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Prayers will be recited at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, followed by a 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. Father Jason Kahle will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Phillip Bush (1956-2010)

Phillip Bush, 53, of Grayson, died Monday at his residence.

He was born Nov. 28, 1956, in Dayton, Ohio.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Friends may call after 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Rebecca Welch

Rebecca Joyce Welch, 71, of Frenchburg, has died.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Menifee Home for Funerals in Frenchburg. Burial will be in Pomeroyton Cemetery.



Elaina Robinette

Elaina Skie Robinette, infant daughter of Matthew and Amber Winkleman Robinette of Morehead, died Sunday in St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.

A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. today at Ditney Cemetery.

Paula Branham (1989-2010)

Paula Nicole Esclante Branham, 20, of Wittensville, died Monday in Drift.

She was born Aug. 4, 1989, in Chula Vista, Calif.

Friends may call after noon today at Jones-Preston Funeral Home in Paintsville.

Burial will be in Chula Vista.



Patricia Ball (1954-2010)

Patricia A. Ball, 55, of Coal Grove, died Jan. 26 in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.

She was born Aug. 14, 1954.

A memorial service will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Brown Funeral Chapel in Ironton.
