Marie H. Bowen
Our mother, grandmother, sister and friend was loved by all who knew her. She was a lifelong resident of Carter County.
Marie owned and operated a well-known clothing and furniture store for 47 years. She was a charter member of Dixie Park Freewill Baptist Church. In earlier years, she was involved in numerous community activities. Her love was family, church, business, friends and travel. She taught her children and grandchildren to be compassionate and caring for others.
Marie had a strong work ethic with emphasis on honesty, and determination was important to her, as well as giving to people rather than receiving from people. The love and care she has given over the years to numerous people had a profound effect on their lives, which instilled a fond memory in each heart forever. It is an honor and privilege to have been part of her life, witnessing her generosity over the years.
With her passing it has brought an indescribable sadness and sorrow, leaving a void in each one's life. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by a son, Billy Harris.
Marie is survived by two sons, Bob (Debra) Harris of Grayson and Jerry (Debbie) Harris of Grayson; two daughters, Betty (Lewis) Claxon of Grayson and Bonnie (Jerry) Yates of Grayson; a daughter-in-law, Dianna Harris of Grayson; two sisters, Juanita (James) Jackson of Grayson and Goldie (Arthur) Hay of Grayson; a brother, Wayne (Mildred) Grizzell of Flemingsburg; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
