COLCHESTER, CN — Catherine Lauer, 97, formerly of Ashland, died peacefully on Dec. 29, 2012, in the Harrington Court Convalescent Home in Colchester, Conn.

She was born Aug. 16, 1915, in Portsmouth, Ohio, the daughter of the late Barry King and Cora Abrams.

She had three sisters, Ada Burton, Ruby Keaton and Edith Abrams; and two brothers, Howard Abrams and Russell Abrams, who died as a POW in World War II.

She married William R. Crowe and had two sons, Dewey Crowe of Orlando, Fla., and William Abrams of Colchester.

After her husband died, she went to nursing school and received her LPN degree and worked in hospitals and in private duty home care for many years.
