ASHLAND —
John Descome Smith, 72, of Ashland, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, in Kingsbrook Life Care Center.
He was born Oct. 15, 1940, in Ashland, a son of the late D. Avery and Anna Goodwin Smith.
He was the former owner and operator of Atkins Hardware and a 1958 graduate of Ashland High School.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Atkins Smith; two daughters, Jonda (Rob) Lockhart of Catlettsburg and Jill (Eric) Thibodeaux of Ashland; a son, Craig (Anita) Smith of Catlettsburg; a brother, Dwight A. (Geneva) Smith of Ashland; four grandchildren, Leah Lockhart, Anna Lockhart, Natalie Thibodeaux and Luke Thibodeaux; and three nieces and a nephew they raised as their own, Holly Waggoner (Matt) Hampton, Kelly Waggoner, Hope Smith and Jacob Smith.
A memorial service will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at Miller Funeral Home by son-in-law Rob Lockhart.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to a favorite charity.
