ASHLAND — Benicca “Ben” Pierpoint Blankenship Hern, age 93, of Ashland, died on Monday, July 4, 2011, at Woodland Oaks Health Center in Ashland. She was born Jan. 28, 1918, the daughter of the late Benjamin and Effie Mae Brown Pierpoint. She was retired from Allied Chemical as a cook, and she was a member of Storms Creek Baptist Church.

She was preceded by her husband, Hobert Hern; one brother, Gilbert Pierpoint; and three sisters, Mildred Boggess, Helen Brokaw and Edna Bowman.

Survivors include two sons and daughters in-law, Bennie and Kay Blankenship of Ironton, Ohio, Hobert “Hobie” and Glenda Hern of Russell; one stepdaughter, Kay Maynard of Raceland; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at noon on Thursday, July 7, at O’Keefe –Baker Funeral Home in Ironton. Kenny Hurst will be officiating. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service time Thursday at the funeral home.
