CATLETTSBURG —
Virginia Cumpston Stewart, 87, of Catlettsburg, passed away Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012, in Oakmont Manor in Flatwoods.
Mrs. Stewart was born Feb. 4, 1925, in Boyd County, a daughter of the late Charles and Octavia Cumpston. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Stewart.
Virginia was a homemaker. She enjoyed flowers, watching birds and astronomy, and was a member of Twin Fork Church of the Nazarene.
She was also preceded in death by her sons, Sherman Lee Stewart and Thomas Erwin Stewart; brothers John R. Cumpston and Warren Gamel Cumpston; and a sister, Edna Marguerite Pack.
She is survived by sons John H. Stewart of Catlettsburg, Willie Daniel Stewart of Tennessee, Robin Anthony Stewart (Eve) of Kenova, W.Va., and Barry Wayne Stewart (Lisa) of Catlettsburg; daughters Mary Ann Hockley of Flatwoods, Edna Ruth Clere of Alaska, Eva Mae Williams of New York and Vickie I. (Clifford) Williams of Wurtland; and a sister, Anna Opal Cumpston Penix of Summit.
A service to celebrate Mrs. Stewart’s life will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday Aug. 15, 2012, at Neal Funeral Home in Catlettsburg. Pastor Frank Hulett will offer a message of comfort. Final rest will be in Bayless Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Casket bearers will be Alvin Clere, Paul Wears, Chris Stewart, Robert Stewart, Nathan Kelly and Michael York.
