SOUTH SHORE —
Thomas Wesley “Tom” Carter, 80, passed away Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, in Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, Ohio.
He was born in South Shore on April 7, 1932, a son the late Spence Carter and Lelia VanHoose Carter.
He was a retired kiln operator for the North American Refractory in South Shore, a Korean Army veteran and a member of Steel Workers Union 133.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Traylor.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Darlene Burgess Carter of South Shore; two sons and their wives, Wesley (Lou) Carter and Mike (Terri) Carter, both of South Shore; a brother, Carl Carter of South Shore; a sister, Wanda Middleton of South Shore; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore by the Rev. Tim Underwood. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery in South Shore.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
