ASHLAND —
Woodrow Paul Jackson, 80, of Ashland, went on to be with his Heavenly Father, Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012 in King’s Daughters Medical Center. Paul was born Aug. 6, 1932, in Betsy Layne, a son of the late Arthur Lewis and Byrde Layne Jackson. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Woodrow Paul Jackson Jr.; a brother, William Jackson and a sister, Ruth Pinson.
Paul was a graduate of Ashland High School class of 1950 and attended the University of Kentucky prior to joining the U.S. Air Force where he served during the time of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church where he served as an usher for many years.
Mr. Jackson had a long career with Ashland Oil and retired with 38 years of service as a division manager of Asphalt Sales. He was a Kentucky colonel, an honorary West Virginian due to his contributions to the West Virginia roadway system and as an associate member of the Flexible Pavements Council where he played an integral role such as helping to develop a curriculum in Asphalt Technology for WVU. Upon retirement from Ashland Oil, he was a member of the KY Creative Arts Club in Ashland and a volunteer with River Cities Harvest. He co-founded the Coachman Motor Home Club for a four-state area. Paul was active in many parenting roles throughout the years including coaching little league ball, elementary PTA president, and an active member of the Blazer Band Boosters and Athletic Boosters,
Paul was a devoted husband, father and granddad, and is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Glenys Keene Jackson; son, Greg Jackson and wife Cindy; and daughter, Cindy Jackson Cooper and husband Randy, all of Ashland; brother, Arthur Jackson of Holyoke, Mass.; sisters, Virginia Dixon of Ashland and Helen Lazear of Lexington; and grandchildren, Ashley Jackson, Joshua Griffith, Lauren Cooper, Rebecca (Roger) Doss, T.R. Cooper III and Kathryn Jackson. Additional survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012 at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland. Officiating the service will be Dr. Floyd Paris. Burial will follow at Ashland Cemetery with full military honors provided by the American Legion Post 93 of Kenova, W.Va.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
