Shirley Cotton 1937-2012

ASHLAND — Shirley Gillum Cotton, 75, formerly of Ashland, passed away Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, following an extended illness.

Shirley was born Oct. 2, 1937, in Boyd County, to the late Ephriam and Maude Prater Gillum. She was a homemaker and a Jehovah’s Witness.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Gillum; a sister-in-law, Ruby Gillum; a sister, Betty Hall; and a brother-in-law, Carl Hall.

Survivors include a son, John David Cotton of Daytona, Fla.; a daughter, Johnelle Bray of Sheboygan, Wis.; two sisters, Jeanette Whitt and her husband, Jack, of Westwood and Jean Pitman of Prescott, Ariz.; three grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren.

A graveside committal service will be at a later date.  

Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood is in charge of arrangements.
