Ruby Opell 1949-2012

CATLETTSBURG — Ruby Catherine Opell, 63, of Dalton Road, Catlettsburg,  passed away Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, in King’s Daughters Medical Center.

Ms. Opell was born Feb. 5, 1949, in Ashland, daughter of the late James Perry Jr. and Sarah Bowling Opell.

Ruby was retired from the Lawrence County School System where she taught at Fallsburg Elementary School for 20 years. She loved to quilt and play cards, and was a competitive Scrabble player and a member of Grassland United Methodist Church.

Survivors include daughter, Elizabeth Opell Thomas and her husband Joe of Catlettsburg; one grandchild, Catherine Grace; and brothers, Don (Janet) Opell of Ashland, Fred (Joan) Opell of Louisa, and Eddy (Lola) Opell of Louisa.

Funeral service for Ms. Opell will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Panola Street in Catlettsburg. Pastor Jeremy James will bring a message of comfort and hope. Burial will be in Moore Cemetery in Catlettsburg.

Visiting hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
