Juanita S. Sparks - 1926-2012

APOPKA, FL — Juanita S. Sparks, 85, of Apopka, Fla., went home to heaven on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012.

She was born Sept. 30, 1926, in Ashland, where she resided until moving to Florida in 1974. Ever a hard worker, she became a nurse at the age of 54 and retired after a 10-year nursing career. She was a faithful believer and attended New Vision Community Church of Apopka. She loved bowling, walking and traveling to see her kids. She never met a stranger. If in her presence long you were sure to hear her say, “Use it or lose it.”

Juanita had five children, Johnny K. Sparks (deceased) and his wife, Sharon K. Sparks, of Ashland, Joneta K. Whitt of Ashland and husband Bub (deceased), Terry D. Sparks of Lake Helen, Fla., Teresa D. Christie and husband Randy Christie of Albuquerque, N.M., and Renee Tyler and husband Dan Tyler of Apopka. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Nellie Stanley; a son, Johnny; a son-in-law, William Whitt; three sisters, Bertha Griffith, Virginia Fannin and Barbara Devaney; and two brothers, Rupert Stanley and Cecil Stanley, all of Ashland.

She is survived by a brother, Denny Stanley; a sister, Gertie Braden, also of Ashland; 11 grandchildren; 13 great- grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.

A memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at Hoods Creek Regular Baptist Church at 3445 Ky. 5, Ashland, KY 41102. Pastor Dan Tyler and Pastor Randy Christie will officiate.

Loomis Family Funeral Home in Apopka is in charge of arrangements.
