Michael Lee Cornett 1952-2012

ASHLAND — Michael Lee Cornett, 59, of Lexington, passed away May 13, 2012.

He was born June 30, 1952, in Huntington, W.Va., the son of the late Jack Sr. and Helen Meisel Cornett.

Mike graduated from Paul G. Blazer High School and the University of Kentucky. He was an account supervisor for Valvoline for more than 32 years.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Leslie Wheeler Cornett of Lexington; sons Kevin Cornett and fiancée Tiffany Wilson and Kyle Cornett and wife Rachel Peay;  a brother, Jack Cornett Jr. and wife Lucy; and many nieces and nephews.

An enthusiastic sports fan, Mike was a familiar face in the bleachers of Commonwealth Stadium for years, rooting for the UK football team, and at Keeneland Race Course cheering for the horses on his ticket — places where he will be dearly missed by family and friends.

A celebration of his life will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 30, 2012, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel by the Rev. Ward “Skip” Cornett III.

The family will receive friends after 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Friends may make contributions in his memory to God’s Pantry, 1685 Jaggie Fox Way, Lexington, KY 40511 or the Salvation Army, 736 W. Main St., Lexington, KY 40508.

Condolences may be sent to steenfuneralhome.com.
