Paul W. Tackett (1923-2009)
Paul W. Tackett, 86, of Ashland, Ky., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009, in King’s Daughters Medical Center.
He was born April 30, 1923, in Ashland, the son of the late Lee and Hazel McKnight Tackett.
He was retired from the Novamont Corp., was of the Church of God faith and a World War II Navy veteran.
Survivors include a daughter, Tracey Lobaldo and her husband, William, of Ashland; a son, Patrick Tackett and his wife, Connie, of Ashland; six grandchildren, Jeremy, Corey, Clinton, Jonathan, Erin and Alison; and three great-grandchildren, Chase, Max and Presley.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, at Ashland Cemetery Mausoleum by Pastor Ken Toler. Entombment will be in the mausoleum.
There will be no visitation.
Miller Funeral Home in Ashland is in charge of arrangements.

Laura B. Harper (Maddix) Haupt (1914-2009)
Laura B. Harper (Maddix) Haupt, a Hampton, Va., resident since 1995, formerly of Ashland, Ky., died Monday, Sept. 14, 2009.
Mrs. Haupt was born April 19, 1914, in Grahn, Ky., the daughter of the late William Harper and Amanda Edna Binion Harper Maddix. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry H. Haupt; a stepson, Raymond Haupt; a stepdaughter, Vivian Heckert; her stepfather, Fred D. Maddix Sr.; two sisters, Tewatha M. (Tommie) Colley and Hazel M. Topping; and four brothers, Julius Clifford Maddix, Fred B. (Buddy-Sereek) Maddix Jr., William T. Maddix and James F. (Jack) Maddix.
Her survivors include two sisters, Geneva Christene Forrest of Poquoson, Va., and Mary E. (Libby) Kazarnowicz of Hampton; several stepgrandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express its heartfelt thanks to her caregiver, Mrs. Terri Brown, for her years of devoted and special care.
A celebration of Laura’s life will be at 6 p.m. today, Sept. 17 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home in Hampton after which the family will receive friends until 7:30 p.m.
Graveside services and burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19 at Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to a charity of choice.

Victoria K. “Vicky” Hoffman (1955-2009)
Victoria K. “Vicky” Hoffman, 54, died Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009, from injuries she received in a motorcycle accident.
Victoria was born March 10, 1955, to Milford and Katherine (Allen) Adkins in Ashland, Ky.
She worked as a home health care aide. She married David D. Hoffman on Sept. 23, 2000, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester, Minn. She enjoyed motorcycle riding with her husband, dancing and cooking. She collected knicknacks and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church.
Victoria is survived by two sons, William P. “Bill” (Lindsay) Cordle of Waltham, Minn., and Vernon H. Conley Jr. of Hastings, Minn.; two daughters, Katherine DeBlieck of Fargo, N.D., and Seeta Jo Conley of Cushing, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; a brother, Milford E. (Emma) Adkins of Boyd County, Ky.; and four sisters, Joyce A. (Arnold) Nauer of Red Wing, Minn., Dorothy F. (George) Jordan of San Antonio, Texas, Sandra K. Molitar of Rochester and Patricia G. (Jeff) Bell of Greenup, Ky. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Milford and Katherine Adkins.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 17, 2009, at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home in Rochester and an hour before services at the church. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Ronald McDonald House in Rochester.

Harold Watts Penix (1928-2009)
Harold Watts Penix, 81, of Wurtland, Ky., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell, Ky.
He was born Aug. 13, 1928, in Hopewell, Ky., a son of the late Albert and Verna Smith Penix.
He was a retired electrician for AK Steel, a veteran of the U.S. Navy who served in the Korean War, a member of Wurtland Missionary Baptist Church, a charter member of the Wurtland Volunteer Fire Department and a member of Greenup Lodge 89, F&AM;, and the Scottish Rite in Covington, Ky.
He was preceded in death, along with his parents, by a son, Gary Lee Penix, in 1953.
He is survived by his wife, Opal Bradley Penix of Wurtland; two sons, David Penix and his wife, Tammy, of Stokesdale, N.C., and Ronald Lee Penix of Wurtland; three granddaughters, Stacy Brown and her husband, Brian, of Cannonsburg, Andrea Pennington and her husband, Jeremy, of Coal Grove, Ohio, and Chanel Gray and her husband, Jason, of Greenup; seven great-grandchildren, Hunter Brown, Hannah Brown, Hayden Brown, Breanna Pennington, Madelynn Pennington, Courtney Gray and Taylor Gray; a brother, James D. Penix and his wife, Janice, of Wurtland; and two sisters, Norma Hay of Wurtland and Bonnie Thomas and her husband, Creed, of Wurtland.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, at Wright’s Funeral Home in Greenup by Brothers Butch Kiger and Marvin Boggs.
Burial will be in Brick Union Cemetery in Lloyd, Ky.
Visitation will be after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home, with Masonic services at 7 p.m.
Military graveside rites will be by South Shore American Legion.

Gary Davidson, 68, of Mims, Fla., died Sept. 13, 2009, in Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, Ala.
He was born April 25, 1941, in Russell, Ky., a son of the late Karl and Evelyn Burgess Davidson.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Gregory Allen Davidson, and a granddaughter, Amber Davidson.
He was a retired engineer with CSX Railroad and of the Nazarene faith.
Surviving are a son, Gary Dwane Davidson of West Des Moines, Iowa; a daughter, Rohna Johnson of Ashland, Ky.; a brother, Donald (Janice) Davidson of Raceland, Ky.; a sister, Ruth (Donald) Bellew of Russell; seven grandchildren, David Perry, Christopher Davidson, Ryan Elizabeth Davidson, Gary Davidson, Saraya Davidson and Summer Davidson; a great-grandchild, Vallery Davidson; and his current companion, Fern Farmer.
A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods, Ky., by the Rev. Paul Neal.
Opal “Marie” Brown (1934-2009)
Opal “Marie” Brown, 74, of Louisa, Ky., passed away Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, in Fair Oaks Hospital in Fairfax, Va.
She was born Oct. 11, 1934, in Dunlow, W.Va., a daughter of the late Ottie Sever and Ruby Parsons Mills.
Prior to retirement, she owned and operated several Dan Tax Offices. She was a faithful and active member of Catalpa Freewill Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and loyal friend who will be missed by many. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Lee Mills; two sons-in-law, William Eugene Reed and William Timothy Cremeans; and grandparents Letha and Willie Mills and Maude and Edward Parsons.
Survivors include her loving husband of 44 years, Johnie Brown of Louisa; three daughters, Glenna Marie Reed of Marysville, Ohio, Marilyn Kaye Cremeans of Catlettsburg, Ky., and Shani Rae Brown of Fairfax; a son, Michael Lee (Roslyn) Moore of Hampton, Va.; three sisters, Loretta Clark of Branchland, W.Va., Patti (Jimmy Clyde) Napier of East Lynn, W.Va., and Kay (Larry) McComas of East Lynn; four brothers, Bill Ed (Louise) Mills of Louisa, Gerald (Loretta) Mills of East Lynn, Dale (Francis) Mills and David (Jeanette) Mills, all of East Lynn; six grandchildren, Tina Marie Reed, Roseanne E. Reed, John Adkins, Ashley Adkins, Andre Boyce and Darin Moore; and 11 great-grandchildren, Johnathan Adkins, Peyton Schaner, Katelyn Adkins, Rosemarie Schaner, Justic Ethan Smith, Nicholas Blake Smith, Rylee Rae Adkins, Baylee Artrip, Kaylee Jolynn Artrip, Dylan Patrick Boyce and William Eugene Reed.
Funeral services will be at noon Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at Catalpa Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Cox and Brother Paul Cox officiating.
Visitation will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday at the church.

Casey Ryan Copley, 21, of Route 1, Fort Gay, W.Va., died Sept. 14, 2009, in Cabell Huntington Hospital.
He was born July 25, 1988, in Huntington, W.Va., a son of Larry Rush and Debra Thornsbury Copley of Fort Gay.
He was a heavy-equipment operator with Argus Energy.
Additional survivors include his wife, Brenda McCoy Copley of Fort Gay; a daughter, Jalyn Kay Copley at home; a brother, Larry Andrew Copley of Fort Gay; his maternal grandmother, Ann Thornsbury of Fort Gay; and his paternal grandparents, Rush and Lutie Copley of Fort Gay.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, at Young Funeral Home in Louisa by the Rev. Grover Jackson and the Rev. Tim Preston. Burial will be in Wellman Cemetery in Fort Gay.
