Virgil E. Delaney Sr. (1929-2009)

Virgil E. Delaney Sr., of Ashland, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, in Community Hospice Care Center at 11:55 a.m.

He was born June 14, 1929, in Ashland, to the late Virgil Eugene and Mildred Karnap Delaney. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War. He retired from Sears after 37 years of employment. He was a member of Holy Family Church and the American Legion. He was a Kentucky colonel and a graduate of Ashland Senior High and Marshall College.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Pola Brunicardi Delaney of Ashland; three sons, Virgil E. Delaney Jr. (Debra) of Weyers Cave, Va., Paul A. Delaney (Elizabeth) of Ashland, Ky., and David W. Delaney (Barbara) of Greenup, Ky.; three daughters, Lee Ann Russell (Richard W.) of Lexington, Ky., Andrea Walling (Stephen) of Kingwood, Texas, and Marian D. Vidas of Ashland, Ky.

Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Newman C. Delaney, and a granddaughter, Rachel Ann Marie Delaney.

A Funeral Mass will be at 11:30 a.m. today, Sept. 19, 2009, at Holy Family Church in Ashland. Father John P. Noe will officiate. Interment will be in Ashland Cemetery.

Friends may call today, Sept. 19, 2009, after 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church.

Chester Warren (1922-2009)

Chester L. Warren, 87, of Greenup, Ky., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009, at the home of his daughter in Ann Arbor, Mich.

He was born May 19, 1922, in Hemitite, Va., a son of the late Carl C. and Cora L. Bennett Warren. He was a World War II veteran, a member and past master of Myrtle Lodge 89 in Belleville, Mich., a millwright, a member of the United Auto Workers and a proud retiree from Ford Motor Co.

He was preceded in death, along with his parents, by his wife, Frances I. Bates Warren, whom he married April 8, 1946; and a great-grandson, Luke Brenner.

Surviving are a son, Donald E. Warren and his wife, Mel, of Greenup, Ky.; a daughter, Rebecca J. Clark and her husband, Clyde, of Ann Arbor, Mich.; a brother, Arthur Warren and his wife, Myrtle, of Oldtown; four grandchildren, Jeanette (Jonathon) Brenner, Jennifer (Mark) Grob, Ryan (Cory) Anders and Laurel (Larry) McKenzie; eight great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland, Ky., by the Rev. David Combs.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Sunday at Wright’s Funeral Home in Greenup, where there will a Masonic service at 7 p.m.

Shirley Sargent (1934-2009)

Shirley Lyvonne (Dean) Sargent, 74, widow of Harvey Sargent and a mother of seven, entered into eternal rest surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, after a brief illness.

She was born Dec. 15, 1934, in Logan County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Ora and Katie Fraley Dean.

She was an active member of Bethel Christian Ministries of Westwood, Ky.

She is survived by six children: Mike (Lisa) Sargent of Worthington, Ky., Wendall (Linda) Sargent of Louisville, Ky., Paul Sargent of Raceland, Ky., Sharon Sargent Blair of Raceland, Ky., Anthony and Kathy Sargent Boyd of Mount Sterling, Ky., and Tim and Kim Sargent Stapleton of Worthington, Ky.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Dwight (DD) Sargent of Raceland (husband of Roberta Sargent).

She has 21 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods, Ky. Pastor James Wells will officiate. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20 at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Joshua Sargent, Dan Sargent, John Sargent, Anthony Justice, Marc Boyd, Nicholas Sargent, Bradley Stapleton and Christian Sargent.



Marsha Dehart (1953-2009)

Marsha Ann Salyers Bailey Dehart, 56, of Flatwoods, Ky., went to join her beloved husband, Wirt Soloman “Toby” Dehart, and several other family members on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell.

Mrs. Dehart was born Feb. 13, 1953, in Ashland, Ky., a daughter of the late John and Ida Boggs Salyers. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty J. Withrow; a brother, James E. Salyers; and a grandchild, Wirt Soloman Dehart III.

She was a former dispatcher for the Flatwoods, Ky., Police Department, a former auxiliary officer for the Raceland Police Department and a member of Meade Memorial United Methodist Church in Russell.

Surviving are four daughters, Nicole Turley (and Denver Stewart) and Angela “Angela Rose” Dehart, both of Flatwoods, Ky., Johnda Bailey of South Point, Ohio, and Misty Craft of Ashland, Ky.; four sons, Wirt S. Dehart II of Ohio, Donald Dehart of Caldwell, Ohio, John Turley of Wurtland, Ky., and James Craft Jr. of Flatwoods, Ky.; and 10 grandchildren, Emily Dehart, Amberlynn Turley, Johnathon Turley, Chelsea Dehart, David Dehart, Aries Craft, Cheyenne Bailey, Summer Dehart, Alleyon Craft and Aiden Dehart.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at Evans Funeral Home in Raceland, Ky., by the Rev. Raymond Payne and the Rev. Delbert Dixon Jr. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods, Ky.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.



Mary Willingham

Mary Lou Willingham, 76, of Ashland, died Friday at her residence. Funeral arrangements are pending at Steen Funeral Homes.



Lonnie Ison (1969-2009)

Lonnie Oscar Ison, 40, of Olive Hill, died Thursday in Olive Hill.

Mr. Ison was born Jan. 7, 1969, in Richland County, Ohio.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill. Burial will be in Ison Cemetery on Bethel Ridge in Carter County.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. Monday and until services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Alline Stapleton

Alline Wilson Stapleton, 86, of Olive Hill, died Friday in Carter Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Grayson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Stapleton.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill.



Cecil Adkins

Cecil Adkins, 80, of Sandy Hook, died Thursday in Morgan County Appalachian Regional Hospital in West Liberty.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Waddell & Whitt Funeral Home in Sandy Hook. Burial will be in Elliott County Memory Gardens.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today and before services Sunday at the funeral home.



Christine Click (1933-2009)

Christine Click, 76, of Martin, died Friday in Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg.

She was born Jan. 21, 1933, in Martin. Her husband Jimmy Click survives.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Hall Funeral Home in Martin. Burial will be in the Click Cemetery in Martin.

Rowena Belcher (1939-2009)

Rowena “Susie” Belcher, 70, of South Point, died Wednesday at her residence.

She was born Feb. 1, 1939, in South Point. She is survivved by her husband, Charles “Pe-we” Belcher.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Tracy Brammer Funeral Home in Ironton. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
