Ruth Stone Pifer 1918-2013

CARTER — Ruth Stone Pifer, 94, of Grayson, formerly of North Middletown, passed away Jan. 19, 2013, in Oakmont Manor Nursing Home in Flatwoods.

Ruth was born March 12, 1918, in Montgomery County, the daughter of the late George W. and Beatrice Arnold Stone.

She was preceded in death by her late husband, Lester E. Pifer in 1998; a sister, Lela Lusby; and a great-grandson, Stephen Bruce Lilly II.

Ruth graduated from the North Middletown High School in 1936. She graduated with an AB degree in Religious Education in 1940 from CNI (KCU) in Grayson, also a graduate of studies at the School of Religion, Butler University in Indianapolis, Ind.  

She is survived by four daughters, Diane (Jerry) Lilly  of Vienna, Ill., Jane (John) Webster of Ashland, Mary Brown of Lexington, and Amy (Tim) Russell of Lawrenceburg, Ind.; a sister, Margaret (David) Williams of Lexington; and eight grandchildren; Steve, Russell, Matthew, Adam, Kyle, Jennifer, Courtney, Megan; and 17 great-grandchildren.  

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, at The First Church of Christ in Grayson, with Dr. Tim Nischan, officiating. Burial will follow in the Grayson Memorial Park at KCU.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, at the church and an hour prior to service on Wednesday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Christian Care Communities, Chapel House, in care of, Rick McDavid, 200 Everman Street, Grayson, KY 41143 or Kentucky Christian University, 100 Academic Parkway, Grayson, KY 41143 for the education of future ministers.
