Mary Adkins, 79, of Raceland, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell.
Mrs. Adkins was born Feb. 21, 1933, in Austin, Texas, a daughter of the late Charles and Hortense Martinez Balagia.
She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Norman Bowman “Bunk” Adkins I, in 2008; a daughter-in-law, Helena Adkins; a brother, Buddy Balagia; and three sisters, Beatrice Guierrero, Tiny Bravo and B.J. Hill.
She was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Raceland.
She is survived by two daughters, Sally Ann (Tom) Boodry of Pace, Fla., and Vivian A. (David) Schwab of Worthington; two sons, Norman B. Adkins II of Richmond and Larry K. (Denise) Adkins of Worthington; a brother, Bobby (Anna) Balagia of Austin; two sisters-in-law, Ophelia Lanham of Raceland and Frances Balagia of Austin; a brother-in-law, Ora Lee Adkins of Summit; nine grandchildren, Amanda (David) Duncan, Leslie Boodry, Thomas Boodry, Faith Adkins, Dustin (Robin Snavely) Adkins, Josh (Jaclyn) Adkins, Desiree Adkins, Zachary Schwab and Candace Reed; and six great-grandchildren, Peyton Adkins, Ali Adkins, Leah Adkins, Zoe Adkins, Dominic Reed and baby Duncan, on the way.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at First Assembly of God Church in Raceland by the Rev. James Wells. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the church.
