Robert Lewis Runyon - 1929-2013

CANNONSBURG — Robert Lewis Runyon, 83, of Cannonsburg, passed away Feb. 3, 2013, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

Robert was born July 4, 1929, in Pike County, the son of the late Bill and Edna Leedy Runyon. He was also preceded in death by a son, Edwin Keith Runyon, and a sister, Alma McGuire.  

Robert retired from Armco Steel after many years of employment and was a member of Kenova Church of Christ. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Korean War and was a former church song leader. He was an avid gardener and outdoorsman who treasured his family and grandchildren.  

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Helen Fern Daniel Runyon; two sons, Alan (Susan) Runyon of Pedro, Ohio, and Roy (Mary Ellen) Runyon of Grayson;  four grandchildren, Daniel (Tessa) Runyon of Grayson, Brandon Runyon of Fairfax, Va., Ian (Christine) Runyon of Fairfax and Liza (David) Sargent of Cannonsburg; two great-grandchildren, Connor Runyon of Fairfax and Rocky Runyon of Grayson; four sisters, Emma French of South Williamson, Doris Varney of Turkey Creek, Jo Marie Pollis of Stone and Blanche Walker of Gulnare; and a brother, Jimmie Runyon of Turkey Creek.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland by Brother Joe Hill. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland, with military rites by Kenova American Legion Post 93.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
