Dorothy Pauline Ratcliff - 1930-2012

GREENUP — Mrs. Dorothy Pauline Ratcliff went to work in the Lord’s garden on Sept. 5, 2012.

Dorothy was born in Oldtown on Aug. 18, 1930, to William and Lona Johnson. She was the youngest of nine children born to the Johnsons.

To many, Dorothy was known as Dot or Granny. Granny Dot spent her life loving her family and friends. She spent most of her life tending to others and helping in any way possible. She worked for King’s Daughters Medical Center for 17 years as a housekeeper along with the many other jobs she served in her life. During her life, she was a proud working woman who loved life and spent as much time in her garden as possible. Any person who came in contact with Granny Dot was inspired by her drive for life and her love for the outdoors.

Granny Dot is survived in life by her older sister, Georgia Wood of Milan, Mich. Granny Dot was loved very much by her family, which included her four children, Thelma (Larry-deceased) Branim, Sandy (John) Poplin, Clyde Michael (Patty) Ratcliff and Debbie Caudill. Her family also includes her grandchildren, Melissa (Jeff) Furnish, Cindy Ratcliff, Beth Pollitt, Steven (Sarah) Branim and Justin Ratcliff; and her great-grandchildren, Brittany Furnish, Emily Pollitt, Kaylee Furnish, Addison Branim and Alexa Branim (deceased). She is survived by a large family and many friends she has made over the years.

The services for Dorothy will be by Wright’s Funeral Home in Greenup. Visitation will be today from the hours of 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be on Saturday at 11 a.m. by Brother Kenny Martin. At the end of the services, Dorothy will be laid to rest in the Johnson cemetery in Oldtown.

Any flower arrangements may be sent to Wright’s Funeral Home in Greenup or donations can be made to Community Hospice in Ashland in honor of Dorothy Ratcliff.

Condolences may be sent to wrightsfuneralhome.com.
