Jerva Pauline Kegley Thompson 1921-2012

ASHLAND — C

The daughter of Norman and Ethel Kegley, she was born in Elliott County on April 22, 1921. Her family moved to Wheelersburg, Ohio, when she was a child. As a young woman during World War II, Jerri moved to Dayton, Ohio. She supported the war effort by working for the Department of the Navy at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. She was married to David Francis Thompson on July 3, 1949. Dave and Jerri were blessed with two sons, Terry David and Gail Douglas.

A homemaker, mother and wife, Mrs. Thompson resided in Beavercreek, Ohio, for the majority of her life. She was a member of Hawker United Church of Christ. A loyal band booster of the Beavercreek High School Band, she rarely missed a booster meeting and frequently volunteered in the concession stand at Beavercreek High for many years. Both of her sons and two of her grandchildren have been members of this exceptional ensemble. Jerri took great pride in telling friends and neighbors of her children and their activities. She was elated by the births of her grandchildren, Melissa, Eric, Rebecca, Maggie and Olivia. Jerri loved doting over the grandchildren and hosting camping trips, sleepovers and “talent shows.”

During the last eight years of her life, Jerva was a resident of Kingsbrook Lifecare Center in Ashland. Her Kingsbrook family provided Jerva with exemplary treatment and personalized attention. Their unparalleled loving care was, and will remain, greatly appreciated by her family.

Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Carl Kegley; a sister, Geneva Arlene Smith; her son, Gail; and a granddaughter, Maggie.

She is survived by her son, Terry (Mona) Thompson of Ashland; a daughter-in-law, Amy Thompson of Beavercreek; and grandchildren Melissa and Rebecca Thompson of Lexington and Eric and Olivia Thompson of Beavercreek.

Jerri’s life will be celebrated with a graveside service at Valley View Memorial Gardens in Xenia, Ohio, at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012.

There will be no visitation.

Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood is in charge of arrangements.

Donations in her memory may be sent to the Beavercreek High School Band, att.: Doug McCullough, 2660 Dayton-Xenia Road, Beavercreek, OH 45434, with checks made to Beavercreek Music Parents.

Condolences may be sent to canifffuneralhome.com.
