James E. “Jack” Stephens 1945-2012

ASHLAND —  James E. “Jack” Stephens, 67, of Ashland, passed away Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, in the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

He was born Aug. 27, 1945, in Ashland. He is a son of the late Walter R. Stephens Sr. and Opal Queen Stephens.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Hale Stephens; sister, Lydia Stephens Willis; and a grandson, Travis B. Roark.

He was retired from AK Steel as a Millwright. He attended Russell First Baptist Church and was a board member of the Democratic Committee in Boyd County.

He is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Jackie and Kimberly Stephens of Cortland, Ohio, and Matt Stephens of Ashland; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Dan Goheen of Flatwoods; brothers, Walter R. Stephens Jr. of Winchester and Neil Stephens of Georgetown; sister, Doris Stephens Hollan of Ashland; and five grandchildren.

A funeral service will be at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland with Pastor Ken Gowin officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ashland Community Hospice Care Center, 2330 Pollard Rd., Ashland, KY 41101.
