Virginia Ann Estep - 1933-2012

ASHLAND — Virginia Ann Estep, 78, of Ashland, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 9, 2012, in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland with her family by her side.

Virginia was born Dec. 4, 1933, in Salyersville, a daughter of the late Clarence and Edith Arnett.

She was a member of Hoods Creek Enterprise Baptist Church. Her passion was quilting and she crafted many handmade heirlooms for her family. She was also a member of a quilt club in Westwood.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, L.C. Arnett; a daughter, Judy Lynn Estep; and a grandson, James Estep.

Virginia loved her family dearly. She leaves behind her husband of 62 years, Elvin Estep, and a sister, Vera Lee Back.

She was “Mommy” to six children, Jimmy Lynn Estep and wife Sharon, Sussan Smith and husband Russell, Shelia Smith and husband Lonnie, the late Judy Lynn Estep, Mark Anthony Estep and wife Susan and Matthew Dean Estep and wife Julie.

She was known as “Mamaw” to 11 grandchildren, the late James Aubrey, Leigh Ann, Jonathon Russell, Melissa Gene, William Chase, Kimberly Naicole, Mark Anthony II, Zachery Nicholas Anthony, Samantha Seimetz Anthony, Joshua Dean and Tiffany Ann. She was also graced with eight great-grandchildren, Megan Rose, Charles Russell, Robert Jonathon, Abbigail Emillia, Lillian Grayce, Claire Elizabeth, Elaine Sophia and Jackson Allen.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods by Pastor J.R. Ferguson, Deacon Steve Fraley and Mikailyn Estep. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Mark Estep II, Joshua Estep, Jon Smith, Roger Ford, Chase Smith and Jr. Honaker. Honorary pallbearers will be Lonnie Smith, Russell Smith, Jason Davis and Zachery Anthony.  

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Lung Association at lung.org/donate.
