Verlon E. Jacobs, 86, of Greenup, passed away Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
Mr. Jacobs was born Feb. 2, 1926, in Raceland, a son of the late Fred and Effie Faye Burnette Jacobs. He was also preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Jacobs; two sisters, Lavonna Eskew and Juliette Bradley McDavid; and a brother, Rudolph “Jake” Jacobs.
He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Greenup and was a retired general foreman for the C&O Railroad.
Surviving are his loving wife, Irene Tadlock Jacobs; four daughters, Ramona Stephens and Sheila Gardner, both of Flatwoods, and Sandy (Randy) Hennecke and Diana Riggs, both of Raceland; 10 grandchildren, Tina Sanchez, Katrina Hennecke, Diana Warren, Ronnie Lee Stephens, Melissa Paul, Cecil Riggs Jr., Angie Smith, Lisa Jacobs, Shavonne Hudson and Rann Gardner; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call after 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, at Evans Funeral Home in Raceland, with funeral services at 1 p.m. by Minister John Hibshman. Burial will be in Walker Cemetery in Wurtland.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Greenup or Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
