Dolly Blair Thompson - 1926-2010

Dolly Blair Thompson, 83, of Westwood, died Jan. 23, 2010, in King’s Daughters Medical Center.

She was born Feb. 21, 1926, in Ashland, Ky., a daughter of the late Arnold and Isabelle Blair.

She was also preceded in death by brothers Raymond Blair and wife Helen and Kenneth Lemaster and wife Bernice and a sister, Lorene Cooper.

She was a retired kitchen worker at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital and of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Roscoe Thompson of Westwood; a sister, Margaret Ann Wallace and husband Bob of Phoenix, Ariz.; nephews Danny Blair and wife Susie of Ashland and Steve Wallace and wife Sherrie of Phoenix; nieces Brenda Dheel and husband Don of Michigan and Pam Hansen of Phoenix; and a brother-in-law, Jim Cooper of Phoenix.

The funeral was at 1 p.m. Jan. 28, 2010, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland. Burial was in Ashland Cemetery.

Visitation was after noon Jan. 28 at the funeral home.

Essie Mae Boggs Isaacs - 1918-2010

Essie Mae Boggs Isaacs, 92, of Grayson, died Wednesday morning Jan. 27, 2010, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

She was born Jan. 22, 1918, in Carter County, to the union of Ran and Rebecca Murphy Boggs.

Mrs. Isaacs was a retired bookkeeper with the former Grizzell Market.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Boggs; a son, Charles Randolph Isaacs; four brothers, John “Blackie” Boggs, Todd Boggs, Sanford Boggs and Hughie J. Boggs; and three sisters, Belva Shepherd, Martha Belle Dickerson and Margaret Boggs.

She is survived by a son, Henry L. (Jo Ann) Isaacs of Grayson; a daughter-in-law, Ruth Edna Isaacs of Grayson; two sisters, Minnie Womack and Hattie Bair, both of Grayson; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to these, she is also survived by a special Chihuahua, Little Buddy.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson by George Ronnie Boggs. Burial will be in East Carter County Memory Gardens.

Serving as pallbearers will be Carl Isaacs, Tim Isaacs, David Isaacs, Henry Isaacs, Danny Isaacs, J.T. Raybourn and Joel Mosier.

Winfield Martin - 1920-2010

Winfield Martin, 89, of Fort Gay, W.Va., died Jan. 27, 2010, in Woodland Oaks Health Care Facility in Ashland, Ky.

He was born June 18, 1920, in Louisa, Ky., a son of the late Bill Martin and Sarah Derefield Martin.

His wife, Mavis Martin, died in 2009.

He was a carpenter foreman with Norfolk Western Railroad, a World War II Army veteran and a member of Salt Petre Christian Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, William “Bill,” and wife Tamala Martin of Argillite, Ky.; two sisters, Lucille Maynard of Mansfield, Ohio, and Laverne Fitzpatrick of Murfeesboro, Tenn.; two grandsons, Nicholas Winfield Martin of Lexington, Ky., and William Tyler Martin of Argillite; and two stepgrandchildren, Jennifer Duckworth of Cordova, Tenn., and Kenneth Brandon Morgan of Lexington.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at Salt Petre Christian Baptist Church by the Rev. Richard Maynard and the Rev. Frank Copley.

Burial will be in Lynch Cemetery in Salt Petre, W.Va.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Young Funeral Home in Louisa, Ky.



Owen Hockley - 1933-2010

Owen Jackson Hockley, 76, of Thomasville, N.C., formerly of Iron Hill, died Tuesday in Liberty Wood Nursing Center.

He was born July 10, 1933, in Carter County.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson. Burial will be in Kiser-McGinnis Cemetery.

Alvin Bayes

Alvin G. Bayes, 70, of Flatgap, died Thursday.

His wife, Della Jean Grimm Bayes, survives.

Sharon Charles - 1964-2010

Sharon Kay McBrayer Charles, 46, of Clearfield, died Thursday in St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.

She was born Jan. 27, 1964.

Her husband, Jeffery Charles, survives.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Burial will be in McBrayer Cemetery.

Amanda Music - 1911-2010

Amanda Mae Shepherd Music, 98, widow of Estill Music of Abbott Creek, died Wednesday in Highlands Regional Medical Center.

She was born April 23, 1911, in Prestonsburg.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hall Funeral Home in Martin. Burial will be in Richmond Cemetery in Prestonsburg.
