ASHLAND —
Richard Lee “Dick” Thompson, 70, of Ashland, passed away Sept. 23, 2012, in The Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.
He was born Sept. 20, 1942, in New Boston, Ohio.
He is survived by his parents, Bill and Faye Fannin of Ashland; wife Becky of Ashland; four daughters and 10 grandchildren, including Terri Smith and her children, Scott, Micky and Jill, of Ashland, Kris and Paul Day and their children, Alli, Jake and Josh, of Ashland, Mechelle Woolley-Massie and Jeff Massie and their children, Cassie and Alex Woolley and Cory and Chris Massie, of Flatwoods, and Renee White Short of Ashland; and two sisters, Darla Goodall of Barboursville, W.Va., and Peggy and Richard Scott of Atlanta, Ga.
Dick was preceded in death by his biological father, Fred Thompson, and an infant brother, Roger Fred Thompson.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1962 through 1966 and retired from Ashland Oil Inc. He was a Christian, a member of Wildwood Baptist Church, an avid hunter and fisherman and member of the Northeastern Kentucky Fish and Game Club. Dick loved playing music and collecting guitars. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at Preston Family Funeral Home, 3526 Ky. 5 in Ashland. Burial will be in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East in Greenup County, with military honors by Ironton VFW Post 8850.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today, Sept. 26, 2012, at the funeral home.
