Richard Eugene Nickel 1921-2012

GREENUP — Richard Eugene Nickel, 91, of South Shore, passed from this world Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, in South Shore Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Fullerton on April 12, 1921, a son of the late Joseph Richard Nickel and Gladys Everett Nickel. He was a WWII Army veteran, a construction worker and a member of the James L. Flannery American Legion Post 276 of South Shore.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth E. Powell Nickel, who passed away Nov. 27, 2005; and one brother, Elbert Nickel.

Surviving are two sons and their wives, Ronald (Connie) Nickel of South Shore and Robert (Linda) Nickel of Frankfort; one daughter and her husband, Randy (Randall) Webb of South Portsmouth; seven grandchildren, Richard Nickel, Melinda Lewis, Rhonda Nunley, Sherri Nickel, Robin Lawhorn, Ginny Nelson and Kimberly Newland; ten great-grandchildren, Ryan Nickel, Tyne Nickel, Bryce Nickel, Nicholas Lewis, Jacob Lewis, Byron Nunley, Carter Nunley, Austen Nelson, Brady Nelson and Ashley Lahorn.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, at the Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore with the Rev. Charles Mallory officiating. Burial will be in Siloam Cemetery in South Shore.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.  

Military graveside services will be by the James L. Flannery American Legion Post 276 of South Shore.
