Roma Jean Morgan (1933-2010)
Roma Jean Morgan, 76, of Ashland, Ky., died Wednesday, March 17, 2010, in Kingsbrook Life Care Center.
She was born Sept. 10, 1933, to the late Fred A. and Eloise Honaker Stewart in Lewis County, Ky. Her husband, Glenn W. Morgan of Ashland, survives.
She was a registered nurse as well as a homemaker and mother. She graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in 1954 and was a member of Unity Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Sandra Hieneman and Laurie Palma, both of Ashland; a sister, Marilyn Johnson of Phoenix, Ariz.; and two grandchildren, Chad Hieneman and Morgan Palma.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 19, 2010, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel by Dr. Floyd Paris. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.

Elizabeth Ann “Libby” Dutton Long (1952-2010)
Elizabeth Ann “Libby” Dutton Long, 57, of Ashland, Ky., went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at her residence.
She was born Nov. 12, 1952, in Logan W.Va., to the late Shadie Lee and Pearl Lorraine Parks Dutton. Her husband, Mark Edward Long, survives.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Joshua McCager Long and wife Tiffany Nicole Wagoner Long of Ashland; five grandchildren, Sarina Faith Cordle, Christian Isaac Cordle, Corey Jacob Long, Brenton McCager Long and Kera Grace Long of Ashland; three brothers, Dewey Dallas Dutton of Phoenix, Ariz., James Raymond Dutton and wife Darla Jean Burns Dutton of Ashland and George Ervin Dutton of Minford, Ohio; and a sister, Katherine LaVerne Dutton Horton and husband June Horton of Rush, Ky.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 2010, at Crum Chapel by the Rev. Danny Brown and the Rev. Bill Smith.

Wandel Eplin (1930-2010)
Wandel Eplin, 79, of Raceland, Ky., died Wednesday, March 17, 2010, in Oakmont Manor in Flatwoods, Ky.
He was born June 18, 1930, in Blair, W.Va., to the late Leroy and Angeline Prichard Eplin. His wife, Martha Nicely Eplin survives.
He was a retired shop engineer for CSX Railroad and a member of Westwood Enterprise Baptist Church. He served in the Korean War with the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Wallace Eplin, and a sister, Maxine Eplin.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Michael (Louise) Eplin; two daughters, Debra (Roger) Hambrick of Worthington, Ky., and Angela Bruner (Kevin) of Owensboro, Ky.; two brothers, Woodrow Eplin of Florida and Walter D. Eplin of California; a sister, Margaret Crewey of Oakwell, Va.; a mother-in-law, Shirley Nicely; grandchildren Chris, Jeff, Jeremy, Brandon, Laex, Justin and Kyle; and great-grandchildren Eric, Emma and Owen.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Oakmont Manor and Community Hospice for the care and compassion given to our loved one.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 19, 2010, at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods, with military services by VFW Post 8850 of Ironton, Ohio. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.

Gladys Marie Hall King (1927-2010)
Gladys Marie Hall King of Flatwoods, Ky., passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2010, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.
She was born April 11, 1927, in Ashland, Ky., to the late William McKinley and Cordella Mae Tackett Hall. Her husband of 64 years, Charles Norman King, also preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker and a member of Apostolic Life Cathedral in Huntington, W.Va.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby Gene Hall and Bill Hall Jr.; two sisters, Wanda Hall and Betty Hall Purvis; and a granddaughter, Marsha Bailey Gilbert.
She is survived by three daughters, Judy Ann King of Ashland, Joyce Elaine (Tom) Morman of Clarksville, Tenn., and Charlotte Marie King of Flatwoods; a sister, Jo Ann Hall of Flatwoods; five grandchildren, Sonya King (Robert) Janney, Michael and Chris Morman, Robert Gwinn and Staff Sgt. Josh Tucker; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Services will be Friday, March 19, 2010, at Rose Hill Mausoleum in Ashland by the Rev. E.S. Harper. There will be no visitation.

Bernard W. Sammons (1922-2010)
Bernard W. Sammons, 87, of Grayson, Ky. died March 16, 2010, in King’s Daughters Medical Care Center in Ashland.
He was born May 31, 1922, on Trace Creek in Rush, Ky., to the late Logan and Ida Enyart Sammons.
He was a long-standing member of Mavity Freewill Baptist Church, a 50-year member and past master of Greenhill Masonic Lodge 521 and an avid golfer. He was also a World War II Army veteran who served in the Pacific Theater.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Willard Sammons, Gaylord Sammons, Voyle Sammons, Robert Sammons and Fred Sammons; and four sisters, Becky Sammons, Molly Sammons, Margie Warman and Sarah Lewis.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carrie E. Caine Coburn Sammons; a daughter, Diana Sammons Morrison (Scott) Holbrook of Carter City, Ky.; a stepson, Donald R. (Shirley) Coburn of Ashland, Ky.; a sister, Belva L. Sammons of Columbus, Ohio; six grandchildren, Scott and Molly Coburn of Ashland, Tracey and Jamie Adkins of Ashland, Stacey Morrison of Hebron, Ky., Matt and Jenny Morrison of Grayson, Stephanie and Ian McKay of Brisbane, Australia, and T.J. Morrison of Morehead, Ky.; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 19, 2010, at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson by Grant Sammons. Burial will be in Grayson Memorial Park.
