He knew from the moment he saw Bonnie that she would be his wife, and they married on May 16, 1942. Soon after, Bill left for World War II serving with the Seventh Army in North Africa and Sicily and the Third Army in the European Theater. After the end of the war, he returned home to start his family. Bill spent 33 years working as laborer, then switchman then conductor at Armco Steel. He played fast-pitch softball in the Ashland Industrial League and was an avid tennis player. A sports fan for his entire life, he followed high school and college basketball and football. He especially enjoyed cheering on UK with his son.

Bill retired in 1982 and spent his golden years doing all the things he enjoyed. His love of woodworking will be passed down for generations to come in the carefully crafted furniture he made for his family and friends. He and Bonnie added a room onto their house for their grandchildren, Bill doing most of the work himself. He spent time in his yard making it beautiful for Bonnie and enjoying God’s creatures and creation. He loved his cats like family and took special care of them. Bill loved to watch his great-grandchildren play and to bring them bear cookies in his special wooden bowls. He was a quiet, gentle soul who loved deeply and served unceasingly.

From the day Bill met Bonnie, he wanted nothing more than to be by her side. His family finds comfort in knowing that they are once again together in heaven.
