Charles “Chuck” Carman - 1923-2012

RUSSELL — Charles Carman, 89, of Russell, died Tuesday, June 19, 2012, after a short illness in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.

Mr. Carman was born May 13, 1923, in Central City, Ill., to the late Isiah “Gid” and Alice “Ruby” Kidd Carman.

He graduated from Centralia Township High School in 1942. He continued his education in California and began a career in the oil industry that would span 47 years. He spent 26 years, from 1963 to 1989, as a petroleum engineer with Ashland Oil, Inc. and was a regional production superintendent for Ashland Oil Exploration when he retired.

Mr. Carman occupied his retirement years serving as chairman of the Greenup County Environmental Commission. He was a member of Ashland Oil Retirees, a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and River Cities Harvest and a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

He enjoyed gardening, cooking, traveling, fishing and spending time with family and his many wonderful friends.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Eileen Casey Carman; daughters, MaryEileen McClung and Cathryn Davis; and sons Clarke Carman and Charles “Chip” Carman. Charles will also be missed by grandchildren, Austin Davis, Charles "Charlie" Davis and wife Christi, Monica Davis, Andrew Davis; Steven McClung, Michael McClung and Jacklyn Okafor; and great-grandson, Parker McClung.

A Scripture service by Father John Noe will be at 6 p.m. today, June 23, 2012, at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Chuck’s memory may be made to Holy Family Church, 900 Winchester Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.
