Carrie Elizabeth “Betty” Browning 1930-2013

ASHLAND — Carrie Elizabeth “Betty” Browning, 82, of Ashland, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, in Columbus, Ohio, at her daughter’s home.

Betty was born Dec. 16, 1930, in Carter County, a daughter, of the late William Barber Kelly and Dorcie Maude Crawford Kelly Adams.

Betty was of the Baptist Faith, she was a self taught artist, pianist and singer. She was also a writer and a genealogist. She authored and illustrated her family history. She graduated high school at the age of 70. She was gifted with creativity and determination, both of which helped her through the difficult challenges she faced during her life.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Brian Kelly and William Allen Kelly; one grandson, McKimmie Scott Gorby; one great-granddaughter, Kennedy Lynn Potter; and a great-grandson, Christopher Harley Niple.

She is survived by three sons, Matthew Browning of Ashland, Joe (Shelley) Browning of South Shore, and David (Norine) Browning of Greenup; three daughters, Johnda (Dennis) Haughn of Grove City, Ohio, Tammie (Kevin) Powell of South Shore, and Lisa (Terry) Osborne of Greenup; one sister, JoAnne (Warren) Porter of Flatwoods; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral will be at noon Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup by Dr. Tom Melvin. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. Tuesday until service hour at the funeral home.
