Cecil W. Estep - 1951-2009

Cecil W. Estep, 58, of Ashland, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, in King’s Daughters Medical Center.

He was born Sept.20, 1951, in Ashland, Ky., the son of Lucille Bush Estep of Ashland and the late Clyde H. Estep.

He was a former employee of Sexton Welding. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Rita Roe; a brother, Gary L. Maynard; two nephews, Robbie Dean Gullett and Gary Allan Clark; and a great-nephew, Cody Gullett.

In addition to his mother, he is also survived by three sisters, Sissy Clark and husband Tony of Ashland, Linda Gullett and husband Marvin of Somerset, Ky., and Emma Sue Mullins and husband Bob of Westwood, Ky.; a brother, Mike Estep and wife Sue of Carlisle, Ky.; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today, Oct. 6, 2009, at Ashland Cemetery Mausoleum. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

Miller Funeral Home in Ashland is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the funeral home to help defray funeral costs.



Jim Rice - 1938-2009

J.P. “Jim” Rice, 71, of Ashland, Ky., a former resident of Catlettsburg, passed away late Saturday evening, Oct. 3, 2009, in King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.

Mr. Rice was a son of the late David Lige and Aileen Spurlock Rice, born Jan. 10, 1938, in Catlettsburg, Ky. He was a member of the Kentucky National Guard, was a Crum Chapel Church trustee, an adult Sunday school teacher and a Kentucky colonel. Jim was an avid bowler, loved playing cards and had a passion for travel, but his greatest love was his grandchildren.

Surviving is a loving family, including his wife of 23 years, Patricia “Pat” Rice; three daughters, Angie (Rick) McClave and Melissa (Thomas) Ruffing, all of Ashland, and Christy (Robert) Marcum of Rush, Ky; nine grandchildren, Aaron Cordial, Stephanie Cordial, Alexis Vanderhoof, Jacob Ruffing, Crista Marcum, James Garrett Marcum, Emily Rice, Brandon McClave and Kaythlyn McClave; and two nephews, David Rice and Charles Joseph McGuire.

Preceding him in death were a brother, Bob Karl Rice; a sister, Phyllis Townsend; and a granddaughter, Josie Lynn Marcum, whom he adored.

A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Panola Street in Catlettsburg. Pastors Danny Brown and Bob Chaffin will officiate. Final rest will follow a committal at Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens in Ashland.

Those wishing to call on the Rice family may do so between 6 and 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.



Wesley Junior Webb - 1924-2009

Wesley Junior Webb, 85, of Flatwoods, Ky., died Oct. 4, 2009, in King’s Daughters Medical Center.

He was born March 30, 1924, in Ashland, Ky., a son of the late John Wesley and Mattie Bessie Queen Webb.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Frame Webb in 2000; brothers J.B. Webb and Chan Roy Webb; and sisters Catherine Webb Blevins and Elizabeth Lorraine Webb Lawson.

He was retired from the Allied Chemical South Point Plant, a member of Central Baptist Church, a World War II veteran and served in the U.S. Army and Air Force.

Surviving are sons John Wesley Webb and wife Nolice of Williamson, W.Va., and David Eugene Webb and wife Cathy of Catlettsburg, Ky.; daughter Paris Elaine Webb and husband Bernard Leigh Scaggs of Flatwoods; sisters Lillian Mae Webb Swann of Ashland, Mattie Georgene Webb Gardner and husband Richard of Globe, Ky., Genie Ann Webb Clay of Ashland and Donna Rae Webb Wilcox and husband Robert of Flatwoods; grandchildren Theodore Webb, Bonnie Webb and Jennifer Webb Naglee; and great-grandchildren Orin Wesley Webb, Jesse King and Dylan Albright.

A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009, at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Joed Rice, with military rites by American Legion Kenova Post 93. The procession will leave the funeral home at 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland.

Joyce Marie Flannery - 1932-2009

Joyce Marie Flannery, 76, of Sandy Hook Ky., passed away Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, at her residence after an extended illness.

Joyce was born Dec. 27, 1932, to the late Thomas and Anna Riffe Anders of Ashland, Ky. Joyce was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph (Joe) Flannery; a son, John Flannery; two brothers Bob Anders and Rick Anders; and seven sisters, Pauline Anders, Lucille Anders, Unice Anders, Francis Anders, Ella J. Anders, Dorris Anders and Virginia Anders.

Joyce is survived by two daughters, Rebecca and husband Otis Morehouse of Morehead, Ky., and Joan and husband Frank Spencer of Sandy Hook; six grandchildren, Michael Spencer, Mathew Spencer, Joe Morehouse, Kirk Morehouse, Justin Morehouse and Jennifer Campbell. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Tommy Anders of Ashland, Ky.; a sister, Marcella Rye of Ashland; and many friends and family who will sadly miss her.

Joyce was a homemaker and a member of Newfoundland Community Church.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, at Newfoundland Community Church with Brothers Shannon Maggard and Dennis Brickey officiating.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today, Oct. 6, 2009, at Lewis & Ferguson Funeral Home in Sandy Hook and an hour before services at the church.



Carl Lunsford

Carl Lunsford of Ashland died Monday in King’s Daughters Medical Center.

Bobby Lumpkins - 1931-2009

Bobby C. Lumpkins, 78, of South Shore, died Sunday in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

He was born July 9, 1931, in Jenkins.

His wife, Janet Lumpkins, died in 1998.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery in South Shore.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.



Leslie Cooper - 1974-2009

Leslie Dawn Cooper, 35, of West Portsmouth, Ohio, died Saturday at her residence.

She was born Oct. 20, 1974, in Portsmouth.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore. Burial will be in Siloam Cemetery in South Shore.

Friends may call after 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.



David Blanton

David C. Blanton, 54, died Saturday in Paul B. Hall Medical Center in Paintsville.

He was the husband of Shirley Ratliff Blanton.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Jones-Preston Funeral Home in Paintsville. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park in Staffordsville.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. today at the funeral home.



Hazel Bates - 1926-2009

Hazel Anderson Bates, 83, of Hi Hat, widow of Joe Bates, died Sunday in McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital.

She was born March 29, 1926, in Knott County.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Hall Funeral Home in Martin. Burial will be in Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel.



Pauline Moore

Pauline Moore, 73, of Louisa, died Monday at her residence.
