Bonnie Riffe - 1913-2009

Bonnie Riffe, 96, of Ashland, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009, in Woodland Oaks Health Care Center. She was born June 3, 1913, in Pike County, Ky., to the late Andrew J. and Martha Jane Adams Potter.

Riffe was a former cook for the Ashland school system, loved quilting and was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandchild, Marian Riffe; a sister, Italy Grimmett; and three brothers, Curtis Potter, Luther Potter and Pat Potter.

Surviving are two sons, John W. Riffe and wife Karin of Lehigh Acres, Fla., and Charles E. Riffe and wife Rose of Ashland, with whom Bonnie resided for 45 years; four grandchildren, Eddie Riffe, Dwayne Riffe, Ben E. Riffe and Mark Riffe; three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Rose Riffe, Erik Riffe and Austin Riffe; and several caring nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at Miller Funeral Home by the Rev. Jim Nichols. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.



Leo Dean Pinchin Jr. - 1943-2009

Leo Dean Pinchin Jr., 66, of Ashland, Ky., came to know the Lord on Oct. 4, 2009, and departed from his Earthly life on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, in Community Hospice Care Center at 4:25 a.m. He was born Jan. 30, 1943, in Braddock, Pa., to Leo “Sugarfoot” Pinchin Sr. of Ashland and the late Maxine Kazee Pinchin. His wife of 43 years, Mary Coffey Pinchin, survives.

Pinchin was a Navy Vietnam veteran and retired from Armco Steel after 31 years of service. He was a member of United Steelworkers Local 7153, American Legion Post 93 and was very instrumental in working with the union and steel mill to raise funds for the Vietnam War Memorial in Frankfort, Ky.

In addition to his father, surviving are a son, Leo F. Pinchin and his wife Sarah of Crawfordsville, Ind.; a daughter, Deanna Rogers of Indiana and her husband, Nate, of Wash.; grandchildren, Mazie and Katie Pinchin, Case, Keegan and Ky Layne and their sister, Taylor Davis, and Josh and Brittany Rogers; a brother, Philip Pinchin and his wife, Debbie, of Arizona.; and a sister, Jennie Cantrell of Ashland.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009, at Rose Hill Mausoleum Chapel by the Rev. Larry Mullens and the Rev. Clell Lucas. Interment will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.

Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland is in charge of arrangements.



Josephine Wolfe

Josephine Wolfe, 80, of Ashland, died Saturday at her residence.

Her husband, David A. Wolfe, survives.

Arrangements are pending at Steen Funeral Home — 13th Street Chapel in Ashland.



Roberta Robinette - 1936-2009

Roberta Robinette, 73, of Catlettsburg, died Sunday. She was born Aug. 23, 1936.

Private services will be held. There will be no visitation.

Miller Funeral Home in Ashland is in charge of arrangements.



Robert J. Smith Jr. - 1949-2009

Robert J. Smith Jr., 60, of Catlettsburg, died Friday in Cabell-Huntington Medical Center in Huntington.

He was born July 7, 1949, in Ashland.

There will be no services.

Reed Funeral Home in Greenup is in charge of arrangements.



Ruby Flannery Carter

Ruby Flannery Carter, 78, of Sandy Hook, died Saturday at her residence.

She is survived by her husband, Stanley Carter.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Waddell & Whitt Funeral Home in Sandy Hook. Burial will be in the Marvin Pennington Cemetery on South Ruin Road.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today and until services Tuesday at the funeral home.



Walter Blackburn - 1920-2009

Walter Blackburn, 89, of Louisa, formerly of Inez, died Saturday in the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

He was born Sept. 30, 1920 in Martin County. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irma Goble Blackburn.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home in Inez. Burial will be in Yatesville Cemetery in Louisa.

Friends may call from 6 to 10 p.m. today at the funeral home.
